Treatment of a recently reported complex [PhP][closo,nido-CoH(2,4-CBH)(7,8-CBH)] (1) either by HO in acetone or NaH in THF leads to the loss of both the bridging and terminal hydrides yielding the diamagnetic salt of an anionic commo-cobaltacarborane [PhP][Co(2,4-isonido-CBH)] (2) with the {CoCB}-cluster units adopting a distorted skeletal geometry of the isonido-type. The anionic commo complex 2 reacts with in situ generated cationic [CuPPh] species to give stable copper-cobalt zwitterion [PhPCu][Co(2,4-isonido-CBH)] (3) with four two-electron, three-center (B-H)···Cu bonds, and exhibits no fluxional behavior in solution. Complex 3, at the same time, in CHCl in the presence of 2-fold excess of PPh readily converts to a new anionic species [(PhP)Cu][Co(2,4-isonido-CBH)] (4) which retains initial isonido geometry. All newly obtained diamagnetic commo complexes were characterized by a combination of analytical and multinuclear NMR spectroscopic data and by single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies of complexes 2 and 3.

This study shows the efficiency of WH-C450, an adsorbent obtained from water hyacinth (WH) biomass, in the removal of sulfamethoxazole (SMX) from aqueous solutions. The process involves calcination of WH at 450 °C to produce an optimal adsorbent material capable of removing up to 73% of SMX and maximum SMX adsorption capacity of 132.23 mg/g.

Insulin bound with ligand molecules can improve its bioavailability in oral formulations. In this work, the interactions between insulin and bile acids of taurocholic acid (TCA) and glycocholic acid (GCA) are characterized using different mass spectrometry (MS) methods. Electrospray (ESI)-MS analysis revealed that GCA and TCA could interact with insulin individually or together through non-covalent bonds, and the products included mGCA-insulin, nTCA-insulin, and mGCA-nTCA-insulin complexes.

Molecular spin qubits have the advantages of synthetic flexibility and amenability to be tailored to specific applications. Among them, chromophore-radical systems have emerged as appealing qubit candidates. These systems can be initiated by light to form triplet-radical pairs that can result in the formation of quartet states by spin mixing.

The unsatisfactory ionic conductivity of solid polymer electrolytes hinders their practical use as substitutes for liquid electrolytes to address safety concerns. Although various plasticizers have been introduced to improve lithium-ion conduction kinetics, the lack of microenvironment understanding impedes the rational design of high-performance polymer electrolytes. Here, we design a class of Hofmann complexes that offer continuous two-dimensional lithium-ion conduction channels with functional ligands, creating highly conductive electrolytes.

Tambjamines are complex bipyrrole-containing natural products that possess promising bioactive properties. Although is known to produce both cyclic tambjamine MYP1 and the linear precursor (YP1), the biosynthetic machinery used to catalyze the site-selective oxidative carbocyclization at the unactivated 1° carbon of YP1 has remained unclear. Here, we demonstrate that a three-component Rieske system consisting of an oxygenase (TamC) and two redox partner proteins is responsible for this unprecedented activity on YP1 and potentially, a non-native substrate (BE-18591).
