Beta-sympathomimetic compounds are widely used in therapy because of the bronchodilator, smooth muscle-relaxant and tocolytic properties. However, their growth promoting and performance enhancing effects are often subject to illegal use. The present work describes the development of a fast and reliable analytical multiresidue method for the confirmation 20 β-agonist compounds in animal hair. The procedure is based on alkaline digestion, LLE with organic solvents, SPE clean up and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) analysis, and is suitable for the public Official control of β-agonist residues in hair sample. Validation was performed according to Commission Decision 2002/657/EC requirements. Independent samples spiked with the investigated compounds in the range 0.2-10.0μgkg are showing intra-day and inter-day precision (RSD) lower than 17.8% and 19.7%, respectively. Linearity, measured in the range of 0.1-10.0μgkg, resulted with a Pearson's r>0.996. The decision limits (CCα) for the all investigated beta agonists resulted in the range 0.2-1.0μgkg. Furthermore, the method was tested on real hair samples obtained from cattle, known as positive to clenbuterol, in order to check its effectiveness and the β-agonists stability.

Two new cembrane-derived tricyclic diterpenes belonging to the sarcophytin family, namely 4-hydroxy-chatancin () and sarcotoroid (), together with two known related ones ( and ), were isolated from the soft coral collected off Ximao Island in the South China Sea. The structures of the new compounds were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analysis, a quantum mechanical nuclear magnetic resonance (QM-NMR) method, a time-dependent density functional theory electronic circular dichroism (TDDFT-ECD) calculation, X-ray diffraction analysis, and comparison with the reported data in the literature. A plausible biosynthetic pathway of compounds - was proposed, involving undergoing a transannular Diels-Alder cycloaddition.

Middle Eastern countries, such as the United Arab Emirates and Oman, are affected by frequent dust storms and extreme hot climatic conditions, which can exacerbate respiratory conditions. These environmental factors are particularly injurious to asthmatic patients, as they can aggravate small airway disease (SAD), leading to increased morbidity and healthcare challenges. The evaluation of maximal mid-expiratory flow (MEF-25) as a diagnostic and therapeutic tool for early-stage small airway dysfunction is of significant clinical importance, particularly in hot and arid metropolitan environments where dusty conditions exacerbate pulmonary issues.

Background: Metered dose inhalers (MDIs) are important devices for delivering inhaled medications; however, they have an outsized carbon footprint due to their propellant gas. Many short-acting beta-agonist inhalers contain HFA-134a which has a global warming potential >1000 fold higher than carbon dioxide. We aimed to determine the practices around MDI use and disposal within Australia's major lung function testing laboratories and identify the actions that most influence the carbon footprint of bronchodilator responsiveness (BDR) testing.

Current guidelines recommend adding long-acting muscarinic antagonists (LAMAs) in patients with uncontrolled asthma, despite the use of moderate to high doses of inhaled steroid-long-acting beta agonists (ICS/LABA). This study aims to analyze the factors related to the prescription of add-on LAMA in clinical practice for asthma patients, shedding light on physicians' preferences. This study included adult asthma patients on add-on LAMA and ICS/LABA monitored for at least one year in a national registry comprising 2053 asthmatics.

Background: Early home intervention for asthma exacerbation (AE) in children is associated with more favorable outcomes. Inhaled short-acting beta agonists (SABA) are the cornerstones of AE treatment.
Objectives: We aimed to determine what proportion of parents administered salbutamol to their children to treat asthma exacerbation at home, and the factors affecting the decision to administer the medication.
