Introduction: The literature on surgical salvage, i.e. lung resections in patients who develop a local recurrence following stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR), is limited. We describe our experience with salvage surgery in nine patients who developed a local recurrence following SABR for early stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
Methods: Patients who underwent surgical salvage for a local recurrence following SABR for NSCLC were identified from two Dutch institutional databases. Complications were scored using the Dindo-Clavien-classification.
Results: Nine patients who underwent surgery for a local recurrence were identified. Median time to local recurrence was 22 months. Recurrences were diagnosed with CT- and/or 18FDG-PET-imaging, with four patients also having a pre-surgical pathological diagnosis. Extensive adhesions were observed during two resections, requiring conversion from a thoracoscopic procedure to thoracotomy during one of these procedures. Three patients experienced complications post-surgery; grade 2 (N = 2) and grade 3a (N = 1), respectively. All resection specimens showed viable tumor cells. Median length of hospital stay was 8 days (range 5-15 days) and 30-day mortality was 0 %. Lymph node dissection revealed mediastinal metastases in 3 patients, all of whom received adjuvant therapy.
Conclusions: Our experience with nine surgical procedures for local recurrences post-SABR revealed two grade IIIa complications, and a 30-day mortality of 0 %, suggesting that salvage surgery can be safely performed after SABR.

Diffuse-type giant cell tumor of the tendon sheath (GCTTS) is a rare, benign, yet locally aggressive soft tissue tumor commonly affecting the hand. This case report presents a 55-year-old male with a 5-year history of GCTTS in the flexor tendon sheath of the long finger. MRI played a critical role in both diagnosis and surgical planning, revealing key features such as the tumor's 10 cm length, hemosiderin deposition, and blooming artifacts.

Primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) is a diffuse, large B-cell lymphoma affecting the brain, spinal cord, leptomeninges, or eyes. A patient with a recurrence of a previous PCNSL manifesting as an isolated vitreoretinal disease without central nervous system (CNS) involvement and a second cerebral recurrence without vitreoretinal involvement has not yet been reported. The patient is an 86-year-old man with PCNSL of the left cerebellum diagnosed at the age of 82 years and treated with suboccipital trepanation and resection of the lesion followed by chemotherapy.

Objectives: The objective is to evaluate the efficacy of F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (F-FDG-PET) computed tomography (CT) in the evaluation of tumor response to preoperative/palliative chemoradiotherapy (CRT) for advanced colorectal cancer; including metastatic cancer at primary presentation and recurrent cancers with local and/or distant metastasis.
Materials And Methods: Fifty patients with advanced rectal cancer underwent two point imaging with 18 FDG PET-CT before and after 3 weeks of completion of preoperative/palliative CRT in between 2016 and 2022. Patients with locally recurrent cancer also underwent radical surgery.

Sternal chondrosarcoma is a rare malignant condition. Although surgical resection is crucial, the reconstruction of sternal defects is challenging. A 64-year-old male patient with a history of 2 separate sternal tumor resections received a diagnosis of sternal chondrosarcoma recurrence.

Background: There is a dearth of data on outcomes of postoperative chemotherapy after neoadjuvant therapy followed by surgery in patients with locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The objective of this study was to compare survival outcomes in patients who did and did not receive adjuvant chemotherapy.
Methods: A retrospective chart review was performed using our multicenter database to identify patients who received neoadjuvant therapy followed by surgery for clinical T3 N0 or N1-N2 resectable NSCLC between 2009 and 2016.
