Phytochemical study of the ethanolic extract of Salzm. et Viv. (Asphodelaceae) resulted in the isolation of two new compounds, methyl-1,4,5-trihydroxy-7-methyl-9,10-dioxo-9,10-dihydroanthracene-2-carboxylate (), and (1) 3,10-dimethoxy-5-methyl-1-1,4-epoxybenzo[]isochromene () as well as three known compounds; 3,4-dihydroxy-methyl benzoate (), 3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid (), and 6-methoxychrysophanol (). Compound showed a potent activity against methicillin-resistant (MRSA) and with IC values of 1.5 and 1.2 µg/mL, respectively. Compound showed antileishmanial activity with an IC value of 33.2 µg/mL. Compound is the first isochromene possessing a highly strained 1,4-epoxy moiety. The structure elucidation of isolated metabolites was carried out using spectroscopic data, the absolute configuration of based on optical rotation and electronic circular dichroism experiments and calculations.

Background: Bisdemethoxycurcumin (BDMC), the primary active compound found in turmeric, exhibits diverse pharmacological properties. The study aimed to investigate the mechanisms underlying the protective effects of BDMC in traumatic brain injury (TBI).
Methods: A rat TBI model was established using the Feeney's freefall epidural impact method, followed by BDMC treatment.

Background/objectives: The aim was to study the possibilities of biomedical application of gadolinium oxide nanoparticles (GdO NPs) synthesized under industrial conditions, and evaluate their physicochemical properties, redox activity, biological activity, and safety using different human cell lines.
Methods: The powder of GdO NPs was obtained by a process of thermal decomposition of gadolinium carbonate precipitated from nitrate solution, and was studied using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive X-ray analyzer (EDX). The redox activity of different concentrations of GdO NPs was studied by the optical spectroscopy (OS) method in the photochemical degradation process of methylene blue dye upon irradiation with an optical source.

Accurate measurement of plasma protein binding (PPB) is of critical importance in drug discovery. Methodologies for PPB measurement continue to evolve to address the challenges of highly bound compounds. In order to generate high quality PPB data, it is crucial to not only apply state-of-the-art methods and highly sensitive and selective detectors, but also use high-quality plasma.

Introduction: Chronic liver disease is driven by a prolonged wound healing response leading to fibrogenesis, potentially progressing to cirrhosis. Hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) are the primary cells driving hepatic fibrosis because they are major producers of extracellular matrix. The nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells (NF-ΚB) pathway is a key regulator of inflammatory signaling, and survival of activated HSCs has been found to be NF-KB dependent.
