To complete the review article by Abes and colleagues (Pharmaceuticals 2010, 3, 146-157) which provides a good overview on recently developed approaches for generation of glyco-modified antibodies and the impact of glyco-modification of antibodies on their effector functions, important information should be added, namely that - besides the Glycart and the Biowa approach to generate de-fucosylated antibodies - innovative, moss derived methods have been shown to generate glyco-modified antibodies with improved effector function profile.

The emergence of mRNA vaccines offers great promise and a potent platform in combating various diseases, notably COVID-19. Nevertheless, challenges such as inherent instability and potential side effects of current delivery systems underscore the critical need for the advancement of stable, safe, and efficacious mRNA vaccines. In this study, a robust mRNA vaccine (cmRNA-1130) eliciting potent immune activation has been developed from a biodegradable lipid with eight ester bonds in the branched tail (AX4) and synthetic circular mRNA (cmRNA) encoding the trimeric Delta receptor binding domain of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein.

The demand for sensitive, rapid, and affordable diagnostic techniques has surged, particularly following the COVID-19 pandemic, driving the development of CRISPR-based diagnostic tools that utilize Cas effector proteins (such as Cas9, Cas12, and Cas13) as viable alternatives to traditional nucleic acid-based detection methods. These CRISPR systems, often integrated with biosensing and amplification technologies, provide precise, rapid, and portable diagnostics, making on-site testing without the need for extensive infrastructure feasible, especially in underserved or rural areas. In contrast, traditional diagnostic methods, while still essential, are often limited by the need for costly equipment and skilled operators, restricting their accessibility.

Deciphering how individual sex-determining genes orchestrate sex determination can reveal new actors in sexual development.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICPis) significantly improves survival in a number of cancer patients by blocking immunosuppressive molecules and reactivating the function of effector T cells to specifically kil tumor cells. This article reports a case of secondary hypoadrenocorticism caused by programmed death 1 (PD-1) inhibitor related hypophysitis. A 65-year-old male patient received immunotherapy for right lung squamous cell carcinoma invading the chest wall (cT4N2M0) for 4 times.

Type III CRISPR-Cas executes a multifaceted anti-phage response, activating effectors such as a nuclease or membrane depolarizer. In a recent Cell paper, Baca and Majumder et al. report an accessory effector, Cad1, which deaminates ATP into ITP, causing ITP accumulation and host growth arrest, thereby inhibiting phage propagation.
