Room-temperature accelerated aging in the solid state has been applied for atom- and energy-efficient activation of either one or two C-H bonds of azobenzene and methyl orange by palladium(ii) acetate. Organopalladium complexes are prepared in quantitative reactions without potentially harmful side products. Dicyclopalladated methyl orange is water-soluble and is a selective chromogenic biothiol sensor at physiologically-relevant micromolar concentrations in buffered aqueous media.

The advancement of lanthanide fingerprint sensors characterized by targeted emission responses and low self-fluorescence interference for the detection of biothiols is of considerable importance for the early diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Herein, the lanthanide "personality function tailoring" HOF composite sensor array is designed for the specific discrimination of biothiols (GSH, Cys, and Hcy) based on the activation of various luminescent molecules, such as r-AuNCs/luminol via HOF surface proximity. Lumi-HOF@Ce serves as a versatile platform for catalyzing the oxidation of -phenylenediamine (OPD) to generate yellow fluorescent oligomers, accompanied by the fluorescence attenuation of luminol.

Accurate and sensitive fluorescence imaging of biothiols is essential for understanding the mechanism underlying some physiological and pathological events, as well as the prevention and diagnosis of diseases. However, low signal transduction efficiency and poor biocompatibility of fluorescence tags associated with current sensors hinder their potential utilizations. Herein, a smart biothiols sensitive vivo imaging platform on the basis of amplifying nanoprobe has been designed.

As one of the most abundant biothiols in cells, glutathione (GSH) usually exists in a dynamic equilibrium of oxidized glutathione (GSSG) and reduces glutathione redox, and plays an essential reducing substance to maintain the REDOX balance of the microenvironment. So, the development of a reliable GSH sensor will be important for living cells and organisms. We fabricated a mitochondria targeted "turn-on" fluorescent sensor based on Ir (III) complex and successfully detected endogenous and exogenous GSH in living cells and zebrafish.

Dyes-encapsulated metal-organic cage as fluorescence sensor array for the auxiliary differential diagnosis of MCD and FSGS in early renal disorders.

Both minimal change disease (MCD) and focal segmental glomerular sclerosis (FSGS) are the pathological types of primary nephrotic syndrome (PNS) and cannot be readily distinguished owing to their highly similar clinical presentations. Currently, methods for clinical MCD and FSGS diagnosis still rely on invasive renal biopsy which impede rapid and accurate diagnosis for timely treatment management. In this study, a novel diagnostic strategy by introducing the dyes with spironolactone structure into the metal-organic cage to construct three dye@MOCs composites has been developed and employed as fluorescence sensor array for assisting in the auxiliary differential diagnosis of MCD and FSGS based on the distinguishable biothiols in urine.

Biothiol analysis is significant to health assessment and early detection of potential diseases. Considering practical requirements, simple and rapid identification and determination of biothiols are still a great challenge due to the similar structures. Fortunately, the recently emerging colorimetric sensor array technique makes such a task possible.
