NiFe/NiFeO core/shell electrocatalysts show excellent OER activity by taking advantage of the synergetic effect between the metal core and the oxide/hydroxide shell, i.e. the metal core provides good bulk electron conduction and thus extends the OER active sites to the whole oxide/hydroxide shell, and the shell catalyzes the OER and protects the metal core from oxidation.

Coordination-driven metallo-supramolecular polymers hold significant potential as highly efficient catalysts for photocatalytic CO reduction, owing to the covalent integration of the light harvesting unit, catalytic center and intrinsic hierarchical nanostructures. In this study, we present the synthesis, characterization, and gelation behaviour of a novel low molecular weight gelator (LMWG) integrating a benzo[1,2-:4,5-']dithiophene core with terpyridine (TPY) units alkyl amide chains (TPY-BDT). The two TPY ends of the TPY-BDT unit efficiently chelate with metal ions, enabling the formation of a metallo-supramolecular polymer that brings together the catalytic center and a photosensitizer in close proximity, maximizing catalytic efficiency for CO reduction.

Optical Properties of Phenylthiolate-Capped CdS Nanoparticles.

Using many-body perturbation theory, we study the optical properties of phenylthiolate-capped cadmium sulfide nanoparticles to understand the origin of the experimentally observed blue shift in those properties with decreasing particle size. We show that the absorption spectra predicted by many-body perturbation theory agree well with the experimentally measured spectra. The results of our calculations demonstrate that all low-energy excited states correspond to a mixture of two fundamental types of excitations: intraligand and ligand-to-metal charge-transfer excitations.

Hydrogen production via water-splitting or ammonia electrolysis using transition metal-based electrodes is one of the most cost-effective approaches. Herein, ca. 1-4% of Pt atoms are stuffed into a wolframite-type NiWO lattice to improve the electrocatalytic efficiency.

Structural insights into the role of reduced cysteine residues in SOD1 amyloid filament formation.

Department of Agricultural Biotechnology, and Research Institute of Agriculture and Life Sciences, CALS, Seoul National University, Seoul 08826, Republic of Korea.

The formation of superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) filaments has been implicated in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Although the disulfide bond formed between Cys57 and Cys146 in the active state has been well studied, the role of the reduced cysteine residues, Cys6 and Cys111, in SOD1 filament formation remains unclear. In this study, we investigated the role of reduced cysteine residues by determining and comparing cryoelectron microscopy (cryo-EM) structures of wild-type (WT) and C6A/C111A SOD1 filaments under thiol-based reducing and metal-depriving conditions, starting with protein samples possessing enzymatic activity.
