Published: October 2016

A cross-coupling strategy for the preparation of novel sulfoximines via preformed sulfoximidoyl-containing building blocks has been developed. It allows obtaining a wide range of products in good yields under mild reaction conditions, and it can be applied in late-stage functionalizations, as demonstrated by the synthesis of a sulfoximine-based analogue of a recently reported potent valosine-containing protein inhibitor.

Unraveling the electronic structure of metal complexes can bring various catalytic possibilities for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). However, the electronic effect of metal and ligands modulating and switching the reaction center for HER has yet to be comprehensively analyzed. Herein, we report nickel selenoether electrocatalysts which show tunable reaction centers (nickel or ligand) for HER using mild weak acetic acid in less deprotonating DMF solvent.

Tributyl(ethyl)phosphonium oxopentenolate ([P][Pen]) is an ionic liquid developed to capture CO and has shown ability to catalyze carbonylation reactions in organic chemistry. Carbon-11 (C, t=20.4 min) labeled CO is a highly versatile building block for the synthesis of positron emission tomography (PET) radiotracers that are applied for medical imaging.

Amino acids are fundamental building blocks of proteins, playing critical roles in medical diagnostics, environmental monitoring, and biomarker identification. The development of nanoscale electronic sensors capable of single-amino-acid recognition has gained significant attention due to their potential for label-free, real-time detection. In this study, we investigate the electronic transport properties of amino acids in two gold-based nanodevices with distinct architectures: a gold nanojunction and a gold-capacitor system.

Dearomatizing Photocyclization and Oxidative Aromatization: Constructing Polycyclic Arenes from Styrenes.

The direct construction of polycyclic arenes through ring formation using simple building blocks is highly appealing but remains challenging in organic chemistry. In this study, we introduce an efficient cascade reaction that combines dearomatizing photocyclization with oxidative aromatization, driven by organophotocatalysis. Conducted under mild, transition-metal-free conditions, this reaction seamlessly converts styrene derivatives into a diverse array of functionalized polycyclic aromatic compounds with good yields and regioselectivity.

New hybrids were synthesised by linking carboranes and siloles, both of which are known as aggregation-induced emission active units. Although most of the newly synthesised systems do not display notable quantum yield either in solution or in the aggregated state, they emit strongly in the solid-state, and a quantum yield of up to 100% can be achieved. The tailorable quantum yield can be attributed to the packing of the molecules in the crystal lattice ruled by the carborane and phenyl moieties according to the SC-XRD data.
