Polarimetric imaging is widely used in applications from material analysis to biomedical diagnostics, vision and astronomy. The degree of circular polarization, or light ellipticity, is associated with the S Stokes parameter which is defined as the difference in the intensities of the left- and right-circularly polarized components of light. Traditional way of determining this parameter relies on using several external optical elements, such as polarizers and wave plates, along with conventional photodetectors, and performing at least two measurements to distinguish left- and right-circularly polarized light components. Here we theoretically propose and experimentally demonstrate a thermopile photodetector element that provides bipolar voltage output directly proportional to the S Stokes parameter of the incident light.

The genus Wittmackia has 44 species distributed in two centers of diversity: the Brazilian clade and the Caribbean clade. The Brazilian clade includes 29 species, with geographic distribution concentrated in the Northeast of Brazil. This study reports the morphology, ultrastructure, pollen viability and stigma receptivity by different microscopy techniques of 23 species of the genus Wittmackia endemic to Brazil and occurring in Atlantic Forest areas.

The use of toxic resists and complex procedures has impeded the resolution and quality of micro/nanofabrication on virtually arbitrary substrates via photolithography. To fabricate a precise and high-resolution pattern, a sericin nanofilm-based coating was developed by reducing disulfide bonds and subsequently assembling sericin protein. Upon exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light, intermolecular amide bonds in sericin are cleaved through the action of a reducing agent, allowing the reduced sericin (rSer) coating to exhibit the functional ability to generate diverse geometric micro/nanopatterns through photomask-governed photolithography.

This paper describes a new species of Halamphora - and records for the first time for the coasts of Indonesia. The study utilized light and scanning electron microscopy to meticulously examine the morphology. These species were found at Kuta Beach on the island of Lombok in Indonesia in highly saline sandy environments.
