A series of monosaccharides containing a biguanide functionality was prepared and evaluated for hypoglycemic activity. Among the analogues prepared were those involving D-glucose substituted on the 6- or 1-position (19 and 24), D-galactose substituted on the 6-position (7), and D-arabinose (31). The target compounds were evaluated in a modified rat glucose-tolerance test (oral glucose load/oral drug, 100 mg/kg). Compounds 8 [6-biguanidino-1,2:3,5-bis-O-(1-methylethylidene)-6-deoxy-al pha-D- glucofuranose] and 23 [methyl 6-biguanidino-6-deoxy-2,3,4-O-tribenzyl-alpha-D-glucopyra nos ide] were the most active, exhibiting nearly equivalent hypoglycemic activity to that of phenformin (1) and metformin (2), as measured by the inhibition of the rise of blood glucose. Compound 31 was somewhat less active with 26% inhibition, as compared to 64% inhibition with 1 and 41% inhibition with 2.

Background: Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is a global health issue, with some patients experiencing anxiety and depression-like symptoms. This study investigates the role of HMGB1 in anxiety and depression-like behaviors associated with the microglial Notch1/Hes-1 pathway in CRS mice.
Methods: A CRS mouse model was developed, and behavioral assessments were conducted to evaluate anxiety and depression-like behaviors.

Oxidative stress and apoptosis are highly engaged in development of diabetic nephropathy (DN). In monotherapy, dapagliflozin and pioglitazone positively modulate target organ damage even independently of their hypoglycaemic effect. This study evaluated whether a simultaneous PPARγ activation and SGLT cotransporter inhibition offer superior protection against DN-related oxidative and apoptotic processes in a T1DM rat model.

Introduction: Several cardiovascular outcome trials have been conducted to assess the cardiovascular safety and efficacy of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP1-RAs) on cardiorenal outcomes in patients with type-2 diabetes (T2D). However, the strict requirements of randomised controlled trials to avoid most confounding factors are at the expense of external validity. Using national real-world data, we aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of GLP-1RAs in association with metformin especially on cardiovascular events, hospitalisation for heart failure and all-cause death in comparison with other diabetes treatment schemes using dipeptidyl peptidase IV inhibitors, sulfonylureas/glinides or insulin also associated with metformin.

The fasting hypoglycemic effect of casein hydrolysate (CH) was investigated in db/db diabetic-like mice using a multiomics integrated analysis of peptidome, transcriptome, and metabolome. Results showed that the oral administration of CH at a dose of 600 mg/kg/day for 4 weeks reduced the fasting blood glucose levels by 14.73 ± 9.

Biowaste produced in urban parks is composed of large masses of organic matter that is only occasionally used economically. In this work, extracts of six plants widely distributed in urban parks in Central Europe (, , , , , and ), prepared using 10 % and 50 % ethanol, were screened for their antidiabetic and related properties. HPLC and UV-Vis analysis revealed the presence of caffeic acid, quercetin, luteolin, and apigenin derivatives.
