A binder-free cobalt phosphate hydrate (Co(PO)·8HO) multilayer nano/microflake structure is synthesized on nickel foam (NF) via a facile hydrothermal process. Four different concentrations (2.5, 5, 10, and 20 mM) of Co and PO were used to obtain different mass loading of cobalt phosphate on the nickel foam. The Co(PO)·8HO modified NF electrode (2.5 mM) shows a maximum specific capacity of 868.3 C g (capacitance of 1578.7 F g) at a current density of 5 mA cm and remains as high as 566.3 C g (1029.5 F g) at 50 mA cm in 1 M NaOH. A supercapattery assembled using Co(PO)·8HO/NF as the positive electrode and activated carbon/NF as the negative electrode delivers a gravimetric capacitance of 111.2 F g (volumetric capacitance of 4.44 F cm). Furthermore, the device offers a high specific energy of 29.29 Wh kg (energy density of 1.17 mWh cm) and a specific power of 4687 W kg (power density of 187.5 mW cm).

The design of low-cost, highly active, and stable electrocatalysts is pivotal for advancing water electrolysis technologies. In this study, carbonyl iron powder (CIP) was anchored within the pores of nickel foam (NF) by electroplating nickel, creating nickel iron foam-like (NFF-L) substrates. Subsequently, nickel-iron hydroxide (NiFe-OH) was synthesized on the NFF-L substrate employing an autogenous growth strategy, followed by a phosphating treatment that produced a nanoflower-like NiFe bimetallic phosphide heterostructure catalyst (FeP-NiP@NFF-L).

In this study, graphitic carbon nitride (CN) and tungsten trioxide (WO) were successfully incorporated into bromine (Br)-doped graphitic carbon nitride (BCN) using an in-situ hydrothermal method. The photocatalytic efficiency of the resulting WO/Br-doped CN (WBCN) composites for the removal of tetracycline (TC) antibiotics under sunlight irradiation was evaluated. The mass ratio of WO to Br-doped CN (BCN) significantly influenced TC adsorption and photocatalytic degradation, with an optimal ratio of 9:1.

Microbial-induced Synthesis of nano NiFe LDH for High-efficiency Oxygen Evolution.

Chemistry

January 2025

Wuhan University of Technology - Mafangshan Campus: Wuhan University of Technology, School of Material Science and Engineeringl, CHINA.

NiFe layered double hydroxide (LDH) currently are the most efficient catalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in alkaline environments. However, the development of high-performance low cost OER electrocatalysts using straightforward strategies remains a significant challenge. In this study, we describe an innovative microbial mineralization-based method for in situ-induced preparation of NiFe LDH nanosheets loaded on nickel foam and demonstrate that this material serves as an efficient oxygen evolution electrocatalyst.

Water electrolysis recognizes nickel foam (NF) as an effective current collector due to its excellent conductivity. However, recent studies highlighted NF's effect on the efficacy of various electrocatalytic reactions, primarily due to the presence of electroactive chemical species at its interface. In contrast, numerous reports suggested that NF has a negligible impact on overall electrocatalytic activity.

A Hierarchical Core-Shell Structure of NiO@CuO-CF for Effective Non-Enzymatic Electrochemical Glucose Detection.

Nanomaterials (Basel)

December 2024

Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Electronic Functional Materials and Devices, Huizhou University, Huizhou 516001, China.

Non-enzymatic glucose detection is an effective strategy to control the blood glucose level of diabetic patients. A novel hierarchical core-shell structure of nickel hydroxide shell coated copper hydroxide core based on copper foam (Ni(OH)@Cu(OH)-CF) was fabricated and derived from NiO@CuO-CF for glucose sensing. Cyclic voltammetry and amperometry experiments have demonstrated the efficient electrochemical catalysis of glucose under alkaline conditions.
