Published: March 2017

Purpose: Resveratrol, a phytochemical known for its anti- oxidative properties has been explored worldwide for anticancer potential. We performed this systematic review and meta-analysis in order to register the efficacy of resveratrol against lung carcinogenesis.

Methods: We searched PubMed for preclinical studies reporting efficacy of resveratrol alone or in combination with drugs like curcumin, cisplatin etc. against lung carcinogenesis.

Results: The primary outcome of eligible studies included change in overall tumor incidence as well as tumor size. In all of the above studies involving either animal models or in vitro cancer cell experiments a statistically significant reduction in tumor incidence emerged as compared with the control groups, yielding a relative risk reduction of 0.64 (p=0.002). This meta- analysis confirmed the potential of resveratrol against lung carcinogenesis.

Conclusion: It can be concluded that resveratrol holds a good potential for future use as a highly efficient therapeutic agent to deal with deadly lung carcinogenesis.

Introduction: Endotoxemia is a common issue for patients with biliary obstruction. The lung is the most affected organ by endotoxins. Exercise training can alleviate lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced lung inflammation and resveratrol has biological effects similar to exercise.

Introduction: Adrenergic activation of protein kinase A (PKA) in cardiac muscle targets the sarcolemma, sarcoplasmic reticulum, and contractile apparatus to increase contractile force and heart rate. In the thin filaments of the contractile apparatus, cardiac troponin I (cTnI) Ser22 and Ser23 in the cardiac-specific N-terminal peptide (NcTnI: residues 1 to 32) are the targets for PKA phosphorylation. Phosphorylation causes a 2-3 fold decrease of affinity of cTn for Ca associated with a higher rate of Ca dissociation from cTnC leading to a faster relaxation rate of the cardiac muscle (lusitropy).

Objective: Resveratrol (Res) is a promising anticancer drug against hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but whether its anti-HCC effects implicate mitophagy remains unclear. Therefore, we aimed to explore the specific role of Res in mitophagy and the related mechanisms during the treatment of HCC.

Methods: HepG2 cells and tumor-grafted nude mice were used to investigate the effects of low-, middle- and high-dose of Res on HCC progression and mitophagy in vitro and in vivo, respectively.

Background: This study looked at the efficacy of combining the phytochemical resveratrol with the anticancer drugs cisplatin and carboplatin on lung adenocarcinoma cell lines.

Materials And Methods: We used MTT assay and generation of Reactive Oxygen Species levels using molecular fluorogenic probe 2',7'-dichlorodihydrofluorescein diacetate (H2DCFDA) to investigate the effects of resveratrol in combination with cisplatin and carboplatin on the proliferation and viability of cells and levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS).

Results: Resveratrol has an anti-proliferative effect on A549 lung cancer cells, inhibiting cell proliferation in a dose and time-dependent manner.

Article Synopsis
  • Resveratrol is a natural compound with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that may delay cellular aging by affecting RNA m6A methylation, which is linked to oxidative stress and age-related disorders.
  • The study used a model of premature senescence in human embryonic lung fibroblasts and found that resveratrol improved cell viability and reduced markers of senescence like SA-β-gal staining and ROS levels.
  • It also increased the activity of RNA methyltransferases and m6A levels, identifying specific genes involved in its anti-aging effects, which provides new insights into how resveratrol could help combat premature aging.
