Background: The higher prevalence and incidence of later life dementia among older Black Americans compared to older White Americans is incompletely understood and understudied. HATS is designed as a companion to the Mayo Clinic Study of Aging (MCSA) with a focus on identification of modifiable cardiovascular contributions to brain health among Black older adults living in urban areas in the upper Midwest.

Terpene synthases produce a wide number of hydrocarbon skeletons by controlling intramolecular rearrangements of allylic pyrophosphate subtrates reactive carbocation intermediates. Here we review recent research focused on engineering terpene synthases and modifying their substrates to rationally manipulate terpene catalyisis. Molecular dynamic simulations and solid state X-ray crystallography are powerful techniques to identify substrate binding modes, key active site residues for substrate folding, and the location of active site water.

SuperAgers are defined as individuals aged 80 and older with episodic memory performance that is at least average for people who are two to three decades younger. A goal of the SRI is to identify the genomic contributors to SuperAging and herein we describe the interim results of DNA- and plasma protein-based analyses.
