Background: One of the infections that mimic tuberculosis (TB) is paragonimiasis (PRG), a foodborne parasitic disease caused by lung flukes of the genus . In the northeastern states of India, TB and PRG are endemic; however, PRG is rarely included in the differential diagnosis of TB.
Objective: To address limited evidence on the dual burden of TB and PRG in northeastern India, we aimed to document the prevalence of PRG among TB patients using sputum smear, stool examination for children <15 years and ELISA.
Design: A cross-sectional study of patients receiving TB treatment in the Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)-supported TB programme in Mon district, in collaboration with the Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC), Dibrugarh, Assam, between November 2012 and December 2013.
Results: Of 96 patients screened between November 2012 and December 2013, three (3%) had pulmonary PRG and were successfully treated with praziquantel.
Conclusions: PRG should be considered in the TB diagnostic algorithms in PRG-TB dual burden areas. In case of TB-PRG co-infection, it is preferable to treat PRG first followed by anti-TB treatment a few days later.

This study assessed the effect of composite resins, aggregated or not with S-PRG particles, and the use of toothpaste in controlling demineralization and bacterial growth. Human molars were distributed into 3 groups: control (CT) - sound teeth, Beautifil Bulk Restorative System (aggregated with S-PRG) (BB), Filtek One Bulk Fill (without S-PRG) (FB). Teeth destined for groups BB and FB previously received Class I preparations (4 × 4 × 4 mm), followed by single-increment restorations.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the in vitro effects of coffee exposure on the color and roughness of conventional and bulk-fill resin composites, with and without surface pre-reacted glass-ionomer (S-PRG) filler.
Methodology: Forty-eight cylindrical samples (Ø6 mm × 2 mm) were prepared and categorized as follows (n = 12 per group): conventional nano-hybrid (Tetric N-Ceram, Ivoclar); nano-hybrid with S-PRG filler (Beautifil II, Shofu); bulk-fill (Tetric N-Ceram Bulk Fill, Ivoclar); and bulk-fill with S-PRG filler (Beautifil Bulk Restorative, Shofu). The samples were assessed for surface roughness (Ra, μm), color coordinates (CIE Lb), and overall color change (ΔE, ΔE).

The overall goal of this work was to assess the ability of Natural Killer cells to kill cultures of patient-derived glioblastoma cells. Herein we report impressive levels of NK-92 mediated killing of various patient-derived glioblastoma cultures observed at ET (effector: target) ratios of 5:1 and 1:1. This enabled direct comparison of the degree of glioblastoma cell loss across a broader range of glioblastoma cultures.

Inflammation models with the proinflammatory cytokine interleukin-1β (IL-1β) are widely used in the in vitro investigation of new therapeutic approaches for osteoarthritis (OA). The aim of this study was to systematically analyze the influence of IL-1β in a 3D chondral pellet culture model. Bovine articular chondrocytes were cultured to passage 3 and then placed in pellet culture.

Accurate protein synthesis requires ribosomes to integrate signals from distant functional sites and execute complex dynamics. Despite advances in understanding ribosome structure and function, two key questions remain: how information is transmitted between these distant sites, and how ribosomal movements are synchronized? We recently highlighted the existence of ribosomal protein networks, likely evolved to participate in ribosome signaling. Here, we investigate the relationship between ribosomal protein networks and ribosome dynamics.
