Annular bright field (ABF) scanning transmission electron microscopy has proven able to directly image lithium columns within crystalline environments, offering much insight into the structure and properties of lithium-ion battery materials. We summarize the image formation mechanisms underpinning ABF imaging, review the experimental application of this technique to imaging lithium in materials and overview the conditions that help maximize the visibility of lithium columns.

Atomic scale, scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) analysis of the moiré structures in twisted epitaxial gold nanodiscs encapsulated in twisted bilayer molybdenum disulfide is presented. High angle annular dark field STEM imaging reveals that the period of the moiré patterns between gold and molybdenum disulfide varies with different twist angles of the bilayer molybdenum disulfide, ranging from 1.80 nm (epitaxial alignment of gold) to 1.

Optimum bright-field scanning transmission electron microscopy (OBF STEM) is a recently developed low-dose imaging technique that uses a segmented or pixelated detector. While we previously reported that OBF STEM with a segmented detector has a higher efficiency than conventional STEM techniques such as annular bright field (ABF), the imaging efficiency is expected to be further improved by using a pixelated detector. In this study, we adopted a pixelated detector for the OBF technique and investigated the imaging characteristics.

A highly efficient approach for synthesizing a supramolecular metallogel of Co(II) ions, denoted as CoA-TA, has been established under room temperature and atmospheric pressure conditions. This method employs the metal-coordinating organic ligand benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylic acid as a low molecular weight gelator (LMWG) in DMF solvent. A comprehensive analysis of the mechanical properties of the resulting supramolecular Co(II)-metallogel was conducted through rheological investigation, considering angular frequency and thixotropic study.

Quantitative diffraction contrast analysis with defined diffraction vectors is a well-established method in TEM for studying defects in crystalline materials. A comparable transmission technique is however not available in the more widely used SEM platforms. In this work, we transfer the aperture-based dark-field imaging method from the TEM to the SEM, thus enabling quantitative diffraction contrast studies at lower voltages in SEM.

The presence of bright resonance of more than 1 mm or more cusps of the aortic valve, mitral valve or mitral annulus is termed as cardiac valve calcification. If an intense echo producing structure located at the junction of the atrioventricular groove and posterior mitral valve leaflet on Echocardiography that is Mitral annular calcification (MAC). This study was conducted to observe the association of MAC with clinical and echocardiographic findings of ischemic heart disease (IHD) and the role of trans-thoracic echocardiography to detect MAC which is a marker IHD.
