Background: Ten years ago, we reported the results of a procedure in which we translocated the ipsilateral ulna as a vascularized autograft to reconstruct defects of the distal radius after tumor resection, with excellent functional results. At that time, wrist arthrodesis was achieved by aligning the translocated ulna with the scapholunate area of the carpus and usually the third metacarpal. This resulted in wrist narrowing.

Long-term study of vasectomy in Macaca radiata--histological and ultrasonographic analysis of testis and duct system.

Syst Biol Reprod Med

June 2014

Department of Anatomy, Dr. Arcot Lakshmanasamy Mudaliar Postgraduate Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, University of Madras, Chennai , India.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explored the long-term effects of vasectomy on bonnet monkeys, focusing on changes in the testes and epididymides over six months and two years.
  • Significant histological alterations were noted in the reproductive organs of vasectomized monkeys, especially a thinning of the seminiferous epithelium and depletion of germ cells over time.
  • Notable findings included the formation of spermatic granulomas, impaired sperm motility in certain tests, and indications of autoimmune responses affecting unoperated testis in unilateral vasectomized animals.

The association of pulmonary atresia and ventricular septal defect (PA/VSD) can be considered the most severe form of tetralogy of Fallot. The main feature of this congenital heart disease is represented by discontinuity between the right ventricle and pulmonary trunk or its branches; the anatomy of central pulmonary arteries is often abnormal, consequently the type and the amount of sources of pulmonary blood flow are variable. Due to evolution in surgical techniques, definitive correction is now also considered in more complex cases.

Survival requires the selection of appropriate behavioural responses in the face of danger. With respect to the threat of predation, both the decision to escape and the underlying neuronal mechanisms have been extensively studied, but processes that trigger evasion of abiotic stressors, which are potentially hazardous to survival, are less well understood. Here, we document the interplay between rhythmic locomotory and 'C-start' escape swimming in Xenopus frog larvae when exposed to hyperthermic conditions.
