Tear inflammatory cytokines are a novel biomarker studied in a range of ocular surface diseases, periorbital and orbital conditions. This single-centre prospective study between 2022 and 2024 aims to characterise tear cytokine profiles (Interleukin-1β [IL-1β], IL-2, IL-6, Interferon-γ [IFN-γ] and Tumour Necrosis Factor-α [TNF- α]) in orbital inflammatory disease (OID). OID patients had pre-treatment tear collection via micropipette, and cytokine analysis via multiplex bead array analysis.

Introduction: Tolosa-Hunt syndrome (THS) is a disorder related to inflammation of cavernous sinus and superior orbital fissure that usually presents with ophthalmoplegia and oculomotor nerve palsies. The etiology of the syndrome is unknown and the diagnosis is set by exclusion of other clinical conditions that manifest in a similar way. Intracranial aneurysms, such as intracavernous ones, should be included in the differential diagnosis as they can compress cranial nerves leading to similar clinical presentation.

Objective: Superficial temporal artery (STA) pseudoaneurysms, characterized by arterial wall defects leading to blood leakage into perivascular tissues, present as pulsatile edematous masses, often originating from trauma or iatrogenic causes. Although rare (<1% of vascular lesions), anticoagulation agent use may contribute to their increasing incidence.
Methods: Traditional surgical ligation and resection have been standard, but the advent of endovascular techniques offers minimally invasive alternatives that mitigate surgical risks, especially in patients with multiple medical comorbidities.
