A novel multiwalled carbon nanotube catalyst with -SO3H functional groups was easily prepared from its starting materials and used as an efficient heterogeneous catalyst for one-pot Knoevenagel condensation, Michael addition, and cyclodehydration of 5,5-dimethyl-1,3-cyclohexanedione (dimedone) with various aromatic aldehydes. Using this method 1,8-dioxo-octahydroxanthenes were obtained in excellent yields at room temperature. The present method is superior in terms of reaction temperature, reaction time, easy work-up, high yields, and ease of recovery of catalyst.

Near-Unity Photothermal CO Hydrogenation to Methanol Based on a Molecule/Nanocarbon Hybrid Catalyst.

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

Solar-driven CO-to-methanol conversion provides an intriguing route for both solar energy storage and CO mitigation. For scalable applications, near-unity methanol selectivity is highly desirable to reduce the energy and cost endowed by low-value byproducts and complex separation processes, but so far has not been achieved. Here we demonstrate a molecule/nanocarbon hybrid catalyst composed of carbon nanotube-supported molecularly dispersed cobalt phthalocyanine (CoPc/CNT), which synergistically integrates high photothermal conversion capability for affording an optimal reaction temperature with homogeneous and intrinsically-efficient active sites, to achieve a catalytic activity of 2.

Lignin valorisation into chemicals and fuels is of great importance in addressing energy challenges and advancing biorefining in a sustainable manner. In this study, on the basis of the high microwave absorption performance of carbon nanotubes (CNTs), a series of copper-oxide-loaded CNT catalysts (CuO/CNT) were developed to facilitate the oxidative depolymerization of lignin under microwave heating. This catalyst can promote the activation of hydrogen peroxide and air, effectively generating a range of reactive oxygen species (ROS).

The sluggish transition and shuttle of polysulfides (LiPS) significantly hinder the application and commercialization of Li-S batteries. Herein, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) supported 10 nm sized iron Hexadecafluorophthalocyanine (FePcF/CNTs) are prepared using a solid synthesis approach. The well-exposed FePcF molecular improve the LiPS capture efficiency and redox kinetics by its central Fe-N units and F functional groups.

Chlorine is an important chemical which has long been produced in chlor-alkali process using dimensionally stable anodes (DSA). However, some serious drawbacks of DSA inspire the development of alternative anodes for chlorine evolution reaction (CER). In this study, we focused on the graphene- and carbon nanotube-supported platinum tetra-phenyl porphyrins as electrocatalysts for CER, which have been theoretically investigated based on density functional theory.

Second-Shell N Dopants Regulate Acidic O Reduction Pathways on Isolated Pt Sites.

J Am Chem Soc

April 2024

Interdisciplinary Research Center, School of Mechanical Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai 200240, China.

Pt is a well-known benchmark catalyst in the acidic oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) that drives electrochemical O-to-HO conversion with maximum chemical energy-to-electricity efficiency. Once dispersing bulk Pt into isolated single atoms, however, the preferential ORR pathway remains a long-standing controversy due to their complex local coordination environment and diverse site density over substrates. Herein, using a set of carbon nanotube supported Pt-N-C single-atom catalysts, we demonstrate how the neighboring N dopants regulate the electronic structure of the Pt central atom and thus steer the ORR selectivity; that is, the O-to-HO conversion selectivity can be tailored from 10% to 85% at 0.
