Exotic phases of matter can emerge from strong correlations in quantum many-body systems. Quantum gas microscopy affords the opportunity to study these correlations with unprecedented detail. Here, we report site-resolved observations of antiferromagnetic correlations in a two-dimensional, Hubbard-regime optical lattice and demonstrate the ability to measure the spin-correlation function over any distance. We measure the in situ distributions of the particle density and magnetic correlations, extract thermodynamic quantities from comparisons to theory, and observe statistically significant correlations over three lattice sites. The temperatures that we reach approach the limits of available numerical simulations. The direct access to many-body physics at the single-particle level demonstrated by our results will further our understanding of how the interplay of motion and magnetism gives rise to new states of matter.

Combining real-space and local range separation-The MH24 locally range-separated local hybrid functional.

In this work, the development of a new general-purpose exchange-correlation hybrid functional based on the recent locally range-separated local hybrid approach is presented. In particular, the new functional, denoted as MH24, combines a non-empirical treatment of the admixture of locally range-separated long-range exact exchange with a new real-space separation approach for the real-space exact-exchange admixture governed by the local mixing function (LMF) and a new empirical LYP-based approach for the correlation functional to enable a flexible description of same- and opposite-spin correlation effects. The nine empirical parameters of the MH24 model have been optimized using a state-of-the-art super-self-consistent-field approach, which exploits the sensitivity of specific properties, such as core ionization potentials, electron affinities, and atomization energies, to the exact-exchange admixture in specific regions in real space and the separation of the LMF into a core, valence, and asymptotic part.

Despite enormous efforts devoted to the study of the many-body localization (MBL) phenomenon, the nature of the high-energy behavior of the Heisenberg spin chain in a strong random magnetic field is lacking consensus. Here, we take a step back by exploring the weak interaction limit starting from the Anderson localized (AL) insulator. Through shift-invert diagonalization, we find that, below a certain disorder threshold h^{*}, weak interactions necessarily lead to an ergodic instability, whereas at strong disorder the AL insulator directly turns into MBL, in agreement with a simple interpretation of the avalanche theory for restoration of ergodicity.

Twisted graphene superlattices: resonating valence bond states and magnetic properties.

Resonating valence bond (RVB) states are fundamental for understanding quantum spin liquids in two-dimensional (2D) systems. The RVB state is a collective phenomenon in which spins are uncoupled. 2D lattices such as triangular, honeycomb, and dice lattices were investigated using the Hubbard model and exact diagonalization method.

A quantum spin liquid (QSL) is a state of matter in which spins do not exhibit magnetic order. In contrast to paramagnets, the spins in a QSL interact strongly, similar to conventional ordered magnets; however the thermodynamic stability of QSLs is rarely studied. Here, the thermodynamic properties of centered hexagon nanoclusters were investigated using the Hubbard model, which was solved using exact numerical diagonalization.

Magnetic phases of XY model with three-spin terms: interplay of topology and entanglement.

J Phys Condens Matter

Department of Physics, Jadavpur University, 188 Raja Subodh Chandra Mallik Road, Kolkata 700032, India.

Magnetic and topological properties along with quantum correlations in terms of several entanglement measures have been investigated for an antiferromagnetic (AFM) spin-1/2 XY model in the presence of transverse magnetic field and XZX-YZY type of three-spin interactions. Symmetries of the spin Hamiltonian have been identified. Under the Jordan-Wigner transformation, the spin Hamiltonian converted into spinless superconducting model with nearest neighbor (NN) hopping and Cooper pairing terms in addition to next NN Cooper pairing potential.
