Article Synopsis

Recent studies have shown that colchicine may lower the risk of major cardiovascular events in patients with coronary artery disease, but its effects on peripheral artery disease (PAD) is unclear.
The researchers conducted two "emulated" trials comparing colchicine to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) in patients with gout and PAD, using data from Medicare patients over a 12-year period.
The results indicated no significant difference in the risk of major adverse events between the colchicine and NSAID groups, suggesting that colchicine might not have a marked impact on lowering these risks in PAD patients.
