A 46-year-old woman suddenly developed peripheral edema. Her massive proteinuria, hypoproteinemia, and renal biopsy findings yielded the diagnosis of minimal change disease (MCD). In addition, lung Mycobacterium avium infection was diagnosed according to a positive culture of her bronchoalveolar lavage fluid. The lung lesion was improved by anti-nontuberculous mycobacteria therapy. Surprisingly, her proteinuria also gradually decreased and she attained complete remission of MCD without any immunosuppressive therapy. She has subsequently remained in complete remission. We herein report an interesting case of MCD with lung Mycobacterium avium infection, suggesting a causal relationship among infection, immune system abnormality, and MCD/nephrotic syndrome.

Durable Remission After Targeted Therapy in Mutant Metastatic Colorectal Cancer: Case Report.

J Immunother Precis Oncol

February 2025

Department of Investigational Therapeutics, Division of Cancer Medicine, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX, USA.

BRAF mutation leads to constitutive activation of the MAPK pathway and is associated with the immune-activating molecular subtype of colorectal cancer. Targeted therapy for mutant metastatic colorectal cancer (CRC) has significantly improved outcomes for these patients when combined with anti-epithelial growth factor receptor (EGFR) therapy. However, most patients ultimately develop disease progression.

Rituximab as a first-line therapy in children with new-onset idiopathic nephrotic syndrome.

Clin Kidney J

January 2025

Department of Nephrology, The Children's Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, National Clinical Research Center for Child Health, Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China.

Background: Idiopathic nephrotic syndrome (INS) in children, commonly treated with steroids, poses challenges due to associated side effects. Rituximab, known for its efficacy in reducing relapse frequency in difficult-to-treat cases, emerges a potential first-line therapy for pediatric new-onset INS.

Method: This is a single-center, retrospective, observational study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of rituximab as a first-line therapy for pediatric INS.

Purpose: To report outcomes in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients with lobar and segmental vascular invasion treated with resin Yttrium-90 transarterial radioembolization (Y90-TARE) with single-compartment MIRD (Medical Internal Radiation Dose) model.

Materials And Methods: This was a retrospective IRB approved study of patients with a diagnosis of HCC with vascular invasion undergoing resin Y90-TARE from 2014 to 2022 (n = 61). Patients with Body Surface Area dosimetry (n = 20), main portal vein invasion (n = 6) and patients with an ECOG of > 2 were excluded (n = 1) with a final cohort of 34 patients.

Anaplastic lymphoma kinase positive (ALK+) anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) typically affects young individuals and, despite high responsiveness to cytotoxic drugs, relapses occur in over 50% of patients. Crizotinib has improved outcomes, but its management in patients desiring parenthood remains an issue. This study presents the first description of four successful pregnancies during crizotinib treatment for ALK+ALCL: a female patient achieving two pregnancies through assisted reproductive technologies (ART), temporarily discontinuing crizotinib and maintaining a complete remission (CR), and a male patient conceiving naturally while on continuous therapy.
