The surface roughness of hole machining greatly influences the mechanical properties of parts, such as early fatigue failure and corrosion resistance. The boring and trepanning association (BTA) deep hole drilling with axial vibration assistance is a compound machining process of the tool cutting and the guide block extrusion. At the same time, the surface of the hole wall is also ironed by the axial large amplitude and low-frequency vibration of the guide block.

Development and Evaluation of a Novel Drainage Cannula for Venoarterial Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation.

ASAIO J

December 2024

From the Cardio-Respiratory Engineering and Technology Laboratory, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Monash University, Clayton, Victoria, Australia.

A critical factor in thrombus formation during venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA ECMO) is prothrombotic flow dynamics generated by the drainage cannula's design. This study aimed to create and evaluate a novel drainage cannula design which optimized blood flow dynamics to reduce thrombus formation. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) was used to iteratively vary drainage cannula design parameters such as inner wall shape and side hole shape.

Introduction: To report 5 cases of concomitant traumatic macular hole (TMH) and orbital fracture, and discuss its incidence.

Methods: This was a retrospective, observational study including all patients with orbital fracture who were referred to us from May 2013 to December 2023. Axial and coronal orbital computed tomographic images with bone and soft tissue window algorithms and optical coherence tomographic images were obtained from all patients.

A 77-year-old man had severe aortic stenosis and continuous atrial fibrillation. We performed maze procedure without left atrial incision( Dallas lesion set) during aortic valve replacement for this patient. Dallas lesion set alternates the isolation of mitral isthmus by connecting ablation line beneath left coronary cusp and noncoronary cusp commissure of the aortic valve with ablation from epicardial side of the upper left atrium.

Objective: Prior clinical findings have demonstrated that maternal laparotomy with trans-amniotic trans-uterine suturing of the fetoscopic port site during in utero myelomeningocele repair reduces the risk of membrane rupture. However, due to laparotomy-associated morbidity, we aimed to explore the feasibility of using a vascular closure device for percutaneous trans-amniotic trans-uterine suturing.

Methods: This IRB and IACUC-exempt study utilized 2 strategies for proof-of-concept testing of using the Abbott Perclose ProStyle Device for suture placement; 1.
