We derive a generalization of the second law of thermodynamics that uses Bayesian updates to explicitly incorporate the effects of a measurement of a system at some point in its evolution. By allowing an experimenter's knowledge to be updated by the measurement process, this formulation resolves a tension between the fact that the entropy of a statistical system can sometimes fluctuate downward and the information-theoretic idea that knowledge of a stochastically evolving system degrades over time. The Bayesian second law can be written as ΔH(ρ_{m},ρ)+〈Q〉_{F|m}≥0, where ΔH(ρ_{m},ρ) is the change in the cross entropy between the original phase-space probability distribution ρ and the measurement-updated distribution ρ_{m} and 〈Q〉_{F|m} is the expectation value of a generalized heat flow out of the system. We also derive refined versions of the second law that bound the entropy increase from below by a non-negative number, as well as Bayesian versions of integral fluctuation theorems. We demonstrate the formalism using simple analytical and numerical examples.

Strategies to acquire high-efficiency luminogens that emit in the second near-infrared (NIR-II, 1000-1700 nm) range are still rare due to the impediment of the energy gap law. Herein, a feasible strategy is pioneered by installing large-volume encumbrances in a confined space to intensify the repulsive interactions arising from overlapping electron densities. The experimental results, including smaller coordinate displacement, reduced reorganization energy, and suppressed internal conversion, demonstrate that the repulsive interactions assist in the inhibition of radiationless deactivation.

Based on the elastic-plastic theory, the analytical formula of the second invariant J of deviatoric stress at any point around the circular roadway under the non-uniform stress field is derived. The distribution law of J of surrounding rock under the three-dimensional non-isobaric stress field is studied by theoretical analysis and numerical simulation. Combined with the butterfly failure theory of surrounding rock of roadway, the close relationship between the distribution pattern of J and the distribution pattern of plastic zone is found, and the failure mechanism of surrounding rock is revealed.

The constrained-disorder principle defines the functions of systems in nature.

The Constrained Disorder Principle (CDP) defines all systems in nature by their degree of inherent variability. Per the CDP, the intrinsic variability is mandatory for their proper function and is dynamically changed based on pressures. The CDP defines the boundaries of inherent variability as a mechanism for continuous adaptation to internal and external perturbations, enabling survival and function under dynamic conditions.

Cervical cancer is one of the deadly diseases that affects women, which requires periodic examinations to identify and treat any cancerous tumors at a preliminary stage. The most prevalent examination tool for cervical cancer prompt identification is the cervical smear (Pap smear) testing; however, due to human negligence, this examination method has an elevated probability of negative findings. Cervical cancer classification using machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) has been extensively studied to enhance the conventional diagnostic process.

Digital governance leveraging urbanization and fintech synergies for sustainable development in BRICS.

This study explores the relationship between Financial Technology (Fintech) and ecological sustainability, addressing a critical gap in the literature where prior research has primarily focused on the economic and societal impacts of fintech, overlooking its potential environmental benefits. Specifically, the study investigates whether fintech adoption in urban areas contributes to ecological sustainability, offering insights into how fintech can be leveraged to promote sustainable urban development and support global environmental goals. Utilizing a comprehensive panel dataset covering all BRICS nations from 2000 to 2022, the study employs advanced econometric techniques, including second-generation unit root tests, the Westerlund cointegration approach, and the Method of Moments Quantile Regression (MMQR).
