A highly efficient, diastereoselective, iron(III)-catalyzed intramolecular hydroamination/cyclization reaction involving α-substituted amino alkenes is described. Thus, enantiopure trans-2,5-disubstituted pyrrolidines and trans-5-substituted proline derivatives were synthesized by means of a combination of enantiopure starting materials, easily available from l-α-amino acids, with sustainable metal catalysts such as iron(III) salts. The scope of this methodology is highlighted in an enantiodivergent approach to the synthesis of both (+)- and (-)-pyrrolidine 197B alkaloids from l-glutamic acid. In addition, a computational study was carried out to gain insight into the complete diastereoselectivity of the transformation.

Continuous flow solvent-free and catalyst-free mechanochemical production of rhodamine B dyes and their derivatives.

Chem Commun (Camb)

January 2025

Chemical Engineering & Process Development, CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory Pune, 411008, India.

In this communication, we have described a simple and efficient, catalyst free and solvent-free protocol for the continuous flow synthesis of rhodamine B dyes developed from 3-diethyl amino phenol and phthalic anhydride. Nearly 95% conversion was achieved within 12 min using a jacketed single screw reactor. This method is further used for the synthesis of six derivatives with 70-84% yield, which can be compared to 85% yield from a 1-hour long batch synthesis involving a catalyst.

Chemerin loss-of-function attenuates glucagon-like peptide-1 secretion in exercised obese mice.

Diabetes Obes Metab

January 2025

School of Exercise and Health, Shanghai Frontiers Science Research Base of Exercise and Metabolic Health, Shanghai University of Sport, Shanghai, China.

Aims: To investigate the role of chemerin reduction in mediating exercise-induced Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) secretion and the amelioration of pancreatic β-cell function in obesity.

Materials And Methods: Obesity models were established using wild-type and chemerin systemic knockout mice, followed by 8 weeks of moderate-intensity continuous aerobic exercise training. Serum chemerin levels, GLP-1 synthesis, glucose tolerance, pancreatic β-cell function, structure, and apoptosis were assessed.

Regulation of protein production in response to physiological signals is achieved through precise control of Eukaryotic Elongation Factor 2 (eEF2), whose distinct translocase function is crucial for cell survival. Phosphorylation of eEF2 at its Thr56 (T56) residue inactivates this function in translation. Using genetically modified paralogue of a colon cancer cell line, HCT116 which carries a point mutation at Ser595-to-Alanine in the eEF2 gene we were able to create a constitutively active form of eEF2.

Dihydronaphthalenes play a crucial role in bioactive natural products and new drug discovery, and efficient and economic strategies to build them are needed. Herein, we disclose a highly efficient method to prepare dihydronaphthalenes a cerium-catalyzed cycloaddition of 1-isochromenes with cinnamic acids. This newly developed method not only features a broad and low-cost substrate scope and mild conditions but also exhibits very high functional group tolerance, including hydroxyl, borate ester and ester group substituents.

XGBoost-based nomogram for predicting lymph node metastasis in endometrial carcinoma.

Am J Cancer Res

December 2024

Department of Reproductive Medicine, The First Affiliated Hospital, Jinan University Guangzhou 510000, Guangdong, China.

This study aims to construct and optimize risk prediction models for lymph node metastasis (LNM) in endometrial carcinoma (EC) patients, thus improving the identification of patients at high risk of LNM and further providing accurate support for clinical decision-making. This retrospective analysis included 541 cases of EC treated at The First Affiliated Hospital, Jinan University between January 2017 and January 2022. Various clinical and pathological variables were incorporated, including age, body mass index (BMI), pathological grading, myometrial invasion, lymphovascular space invasion (LVSI), estrogen receptor (ER) and progesterone receptor (PR) levels, and tumor size.
