Physiological processes at adulthood, such as energy metabolism and insulin sensitivity may originate before or weeks after birth. These underlie the concept of fetal and/or neonatal programming of adult diseases, which is particularly relevant in the case of obesity and type 2 diabetes. The aim of this study was to determine the impact of a perinatal high fat diet on energy metabolism and on leptin as well as insulin sensitivity, early in life and at adulthood in two strains of rats presenting different susceptibilities to diet-induced obesity. The impact of a perinatal high fat diet on glucose tolerance and diet-induced obesity was also assessed. The development of glucose intolerance and of increased fat mass was confirmed in the obesity-prone Wistar rat, even after 28 days of age. By contrast, in obesity-resistant Lou/C rats, an improved early leptin signaling may be responsible for the lack of deleterious effect of the perinatal high fat diet on glucose tolerance and increased adiposity in response to high fat diet at adulthood. Altogether, this study shows that, even if during the perinatal period adaptation to the environment appears to be genetically determined, adaptive mechanisms to nutritional challenges occurring at adulthood can still be observed in rodents.

Background: Sedentary behaviour (SB) is detrimental to cardiometabolic disease (CMD) risk, which can begin in young adulthood. To devise effective SB-CMD interventions in young adults, it is important to understand which context-specific SB (CS-SB) are most detrimental for CMD risk, the lifestyle behaviours that cluster with CS-SBs and the socioecological predictors of CS-SB.
Methods And Analysis: This longitudinal observational study will recruit 500 college-aged (18-24 years) individuals.

Objective: Phase angle (PhA) is a prognostic factor for predicting and monitoring geriatric syndromes. However, multiple factors associated with increased PhA values as an outcome remain unclear in the older population. This study aimed to examine the association of socio-demographic, anthropometric and behavioural factors with PhA among older Taiwanese adults.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a metabolic disease that can lead to complications affecting multiple organs, including the liver. Gegen Qinlian Decoction (GQD) has demonstrated considerable efficacy in the management of T2DM and its complications in accordance with the tenets of modern Chinese medicine. However, the molecular mechanism by which GQD alleviates diabetic liver injury is unclear.

The present study was to investigate the effect of the astaxanthin high internal phase Pickering emulsion (H-AXT) on DEHP-induced liver lipid metabolism disorder and to demonstrate its possible protective mechanism. We have developed an antioxidant activity emulsion system to deliver astaxanthin into the liver to maximize its ability to protect the liver. In vitro, H-AXT intervention inhibited oxidative stress restored the level of mitochondrial membrane potential to 90 % of that of normal LO2 cells, and alleviated the imbalance of energy metabolism by protecting mitochondrial structure and function.

Obesity is a growing concern in the US and world-wide, associated with an increased risk for several cardiometabolic diseases, including metabolic associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). Currently, therapeutic interventions to prevent and/or treat MASLD are limited, and research is needed to identify new therapeutic targets. The specific-sized 35kDa fragment of hyaluronan (HA35), has gut protective and anti-inflammatory properties and a previous pilot clinical study reported it is well tolerated in healthy individuals.
