The control of drug activity currently favors supply-side policies: drug suppliers in the U.S. face a higher arrest rate and longer sentences than demanders. We construct a simple model of drug activity with search and entry frictions in labor and drug markets. Our calibration analysis suggests a strong "dealer replacement effect." As a result, given a variety of community objectives, it is beneficial to lower supplier arrests and raise the demand arrest rate from current values. A 10% shift from supply-side to demand-side arrests can reduce the population of potential drug dealers by 22-25,000 and raise aggregate local income by $380-400 million, at 2002 prices. A set of coumarin-3-carboxamide analogues were designed, synthesized, and evaluated for their ability to impede pancreatic lipase (PL) activity. Out of all the analogues, 5dh and 5de demonstrated promising inhibitory activity against PL, as indicated by their respective IC values of 9.20 and 11.

Target cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2) and 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX) inhibitors; 5-([2,5-Dihydroxybenzyl]amino)salicylamides (Compounds 1-11) were examined for potential anticancer activity, with a trial to assess the underlying possible mechanisms. Compounds were assessed at a single dose against 60 cancer cell lines panel and those with the highest activity were tested in the five-dose assay. COMPARE analysis was conducted to explore potential mechanisms underlying their biological activity.

Doxorubicin (DOXO) has long been used clinically and remains a key drug in cancer therapy. DOXO-induced cardiomyopathy (DICM) is a chronic and fatal complication that severely limits the use of DOXO. However, there are very few therapeutic agents for DICM, and there is an urgent need to identify those that can be used for a larger number of patients.

Background: Bed bugs are blood-feeders that rapidly proliferate into large indoor infestations. Their bites can cause allergies, secondary infections and psychological stress, among other problems. Although several tactics for their management have been used, bed bugs continue to spread worldwide wherever humans reside.

The wide application of zeolite Y in petrochemical industry is well known as one of the milestones in zeolite chemistry and heterogeneous catalysis. However, the traditional organic-free synthesis typically produces (hydro)thermally unstable zeolite Y with Si/Al atomic ratio (SAR) less than 2.5.
