Experimental investigations to determine fission product separation from actinides (U and Pu) while employing the Plutonium Uranium Recovery by Extraction (PUREX) process to purify plutonium produced in a fast neutron irradiated depleted uranium dioxide (DUO) target were conducted. The sample was a DUO pellet (0.256wt% U) irradiated to a low-burnup (4.43±0.31GWd/tHM) that was PUREX processed 538 days after neutron irradiation. Decontamination factors (DF) for the elements U, Mo, Ru, Ce, Sm, Sr, Pm, Eu, Nd, Pd, and Cd were measured with mass spectroscopy in two experiments using 30vol% tri-n-butyl phosphate (TBP) in a kerosene diluent. The first experiment characterized Pu DFs for a single stage extraction and back-extraction, while the second experiment had multiple stages with the goal of achieving greater Pu recovery. The benchtop scale PUREX process had overall Pu recoveries of (83.4±9.5)% and (99.7±4.2)% for the first and second experiments, respectively.

Pesticides and plastics have brought convenience to agricultural production and daily life, but they have also led to environmental pollution through residual chemicals. Emamectin benzoate (EMB) is among the most widely used insecticides, which can cause environmental pollution and harm the health of organisms. Additionally, microplastics (MPs), a relatively new type of pollutant, not only are increasing in residual amounts within water bodies and aquatic organisms but also exacerbate pollution by adsorbing other pollutants, leading to a mixed pollution scenario.

Singlet fission (SF) is a process that is potentially beneficial for photovoltaics by producing two triplet excitons from a single photon, but its application is often hindered by the inability to effectively separate the resultant triplet excitons. It has been proposed that an energy gradient can assist in separating triplet excitons through triplet energy transfer between chromophores of different triplet energies, but this approach has only been studied in solution and the efficacy of this strategy in the solid state is under explored. Here, we investigate energy-gradient-driven SF in a disordered solid state, in the form of suspensions of 5,12-bis(triisopropylsilylethnyl)tetracene:6,13-bis(triisopropylsilylethnyl)pentance (TIPS-Tn:TIPS-Pn) blend nanoparticles (NPs).

Background: Mitochondria, as the energy factories of cells, are involved in a wide range of vital activities, including cell differentiation, signal transduction, the cell cycle, and apoptosis, while also regulating cell growth. However, current pharmacological treatments for stroke are challenged by issues such as drug resistance and side effects, necessitating the exploration of new therapeutic strategies.
Objective: This review aims to summarize the regulatory effects of natural compounds targeting mitochondria on neuronal mitochondrial function and metabolism, providing new perspectives for stroke treatment.

Mitochondria play a key role in the regulation of energy homeostasis and ATP production in cardiac cells. Mitochondrial dysfunction can trigger several pathological events that contribute to the development and progression of cardiovascular diseases. These mechanisms include the induction of oxidative stress, dysregulation of intracellular calcium cycling, activation of the apoptotic pathway, and alteration of lipid metabolism.

The balance of mitochondrial fission and fusion plays an important role in maintaining the stability of cellular homeostasis. Abnormal mitochondrial fission and fragmentation have been shown to be associated with oxidative stress, which causes a variety of human diseases from neurodegeneration disease to cancer. Therefore, the induction of mitochondrial aggregation and fusion may provide an alternative approach to alleviate these conditions.
