We establish the ultimate limits to the compression of sequences of identically prepared qubits. The limits are determined by Holevo's information quantity and are attained through use of the optimal universal cloning machine, which finds here a novel application to quantum Shannon theory.

Bacteriophages (phages) have a great potential to target specifically foodborne bacterial pathogens, particularly in packaging materials. However, incorporating phages into packaging surfaces requires stabilizing their structure and maintaining their infectivity during the papermaking process. In this study, several coating formulations containing various ratios of carboxymethyl cellulose, cationic starch, and glycerol were applied to a base paper to assess phage stability.

Castor bean (Ricinus communis) is cultivated agriculturally for oil and ornamentally for its bright foliage and seed. Ornamental castor bean has naturalized in many areas of the world, including the state of Sinaloa, Mexico, where it is not planted commercially. In a survey conducted in 2019 in Sinaloa, wild castor bean was found widely affected by a foliar blight with symptoms similar to Alternaria ricini previously described in the United States (Stevenson 1945) and in the state of Chiapas, Mexico (López-Guillén et al.

Selective autonomous enrichment of micropollutants in the aquatic media has attracted increasing attention because of their low concentration characteristics and diverse coexisting species. Herein, the gradient hydrogels were prepared via free redical polymerization of AA and NH-β-CD under the induction of unilateral UV illumination (P(AA-NH-β-CD)). The gradient hydrogels present autonomous enrichment towards Sb(III) with a higher selectivity both in single and binary solutions.

Transition-metal-regulated radical cross coupling enables the selective bonding of two distinct transient radicals, whereas the catalytic method for sorting two almost identical transient radicals, especially similar benzyl radicals, is still rare. Herein, we show that leveraging dual photoredox/cobalt catalysis can selectively couple two similar benzyl radicals. Using easily accessible methylarenes and phenylacetates (benzyl N-hydroxyphthalimide (NHPI) esters) as benzyl radical sources, a range of unsymmetrical 1,2-diarylethane classes via the 1°-1°, 1°-2°, 1°-3°, 2°-2°, 2°-3° and 3°-3° couplings were obtained with broad functional group tolerance.

Protein biomarker discovery in human biological fluids has greatly developed over the past two decades thanks to technological advances allowing deeper proteome coverage and higher sample throughput, among others. While blood samples are most commonly investigated due to their moderate ease of collection and high information content, other biological fluids such as cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and urine are highly relevant for specific pathologies, such as brain and urologic diseases, respectively. Independently of the biofluid of interest, platforms that can robustly handle a large number of samples are essential in the discovery phase of a clinical study.
