Metallomacromolecular architectural conversion is expanded by the characterization of three different structures. A quantitative, single-step, self-assembly of a shape-persistent monomer, containing a flexible crown ether moiety, gives an initial Archimedean-based cuboctahedron that has been unequivocally characterized by 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and collision cross section analysis. Both dilution and exchange of counterions, transforms this cuboctahedron into two identical octahedrons, which upon further dilution convert into four, superposed, bistrianglar complexes; increasing the concentration reverses the process. Ion binding studies using the cuboctahedral cage were undertaken.

Incorporating photoisomerizable moieties within drugs offers the possibility of rapid and reversible light-dependent switching between active and inactive configurations. Here, we developed a photoswitchable adenosine A receptor (AR) agonist that confers optical control on this G protein-coupled receptor through noninvasive topical skin irradiation in an animal model of psoriasis. This was achieved by covalently bonding an adenosine-5'-methyluronamide moiety to a diazocine photochrome, whose singular photoswitching properties facilitated repeated interconversion between a thermally stable, biologically inactive agonist form and a photoinduced, pharmacologically active configuration.

In this study, the frequency down-conversion of terahertz waves is analytically and experimentally demonstrated at the temporal boundaries within a GaAs waveguide. The temporal boundary is established by photoexciting the top surface of the waveguide, thereby instantaneously increasing its electrical conductivity. This photoexcited waveguide supports a transverse electromagnetic (TEM) mode with a frequency lower than those of the transverse magnetic (TM) modes present in the original waveguide.

Light-Mediated Interconversion between a Foldamer and a Self-Replicator.

J Am Chem Soc

Centre for Systems Chemistry, Stratingh Institute, University of Groningen, 9747 AG Groningen, The Netherlands.

Self-replicating molecules and well-defined folded macromolecules are of great significance in the emergence and evolution of life. How they may interconnect and affect each other remains largely elusive. Here, we demonstrate an abiotic system where a single building block can oligomerize to yield either a self-replicating molecule or a foldamer.

Article Synopsis
  • Electric field-induced surface-enhanced Raman scattering (E-SERS) substrates using Ag nanoparticles (Ag NPs) and thermoelectric BiTe plates significantly boost Raman intensity and sensitivity.
  • The BiTe plate reduces detection limits by 100 times and enhances SERS signals by over 20 times compared to standard setups.
  • The research also explores how the thermoelectric potential from the BiTe plate affects electron density and Fermi levels, aiding in chemical reactions and advancing the understanding of SERS and photocatalytic processes.

Magnetic nanorobot swarms can mimic group behaviors in nature and can be flexibly controlled by programmable magnetic fields, thereby having great potential in various applications. This paper presents a novel approach for the rapid and large-scale processing of laser-induced graphene (LIG) @FeO-based-nanorobot swarms utilizing one-step UV laser processing technology. The swarm is capable of forming a variety of reversible morphologies under the magnetic field, including vortex-like and strip-like, as well as the interconversion of these, demonstrating high levels of controllability and flexibility.
