The ultraviolet (UV) range presents new challenges for plasmonics, with interesting applications ranging from engineering to biology. In previous research, gallium, aluminum, and magnesium were found to be very promising UV plasmonic metals. However, a native oxide shell surrounds nanostructures of these metals that affects their plasmonic response. Here, through a nanoparticle-oxide core-shell model, we present a detailed electromagnetic analysis of how oxidation alters the UV-plasmonic response of spherical or hemisphere-on-substrate nanostructures made of those metals by analyzing the spectral evolution of two parameters: the absorption efficiency (far-field analysis) and the enhancement of the local intensity averaged over the nanoparticle surface (near-field analysis).

Rational regulation of interface structure in photocatalysts is a promising strategy to improve the photocatalytic performance of carbon dioxide (CO) reduction. However, it remains a challenge to modulate the interface structure of multi-component heterojunctions. Herein, a strategy integrating heterojunction with facet engineering is developed to modulate the interface structure of metal-organic frameworks (MOF)-based heterojunctions.

The development of electrode materials for aqueous ammonium-ion supercapacitors (NH-SCs) has garnered significant attention in recent years. Poor intrinsic conductivity, sluggish electron transfer and ion diffusion kinetics, as well as structural degradation of vanadium oxides during the electrochemical process, pose significant challenges for their efficient ammonium-ion storage. In this work, to address the above issues, the core-shell VO·nHO@poly(3,4-ethylenedioxithiophene) composite (denoted as VOH@PEDOT) is designed and prepared by a simple agitation method to boost the ammonium-ion storage of VO·nHO (VOH).

Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (FTS) in a 3D-printed stainless steel (SS) microchannel microreactor was investigated using Fe@SiO catalysts. The catalysts were prepared by two different techniques: one pot (OP) and autoclave (AC). The mesoporous structure of the two catalysts, Fe@SiO (OP) and Fe@SiO (AC), ensured a large contact area between the reactants and the catalyst.

Controlling the microorganisms employed in vinification is a critical factor for successful wine production. Novel methods aimed at lowering sulfites used for wine stabilization are sought. UV-C irradiation has been proposed as an alternative for reducing the viable cell count of microorganisms in wine and grape juice.

Cadmium (Cd) pollution poses an important problem, but limited information is available about the toxicology effects of Cd on freshwater invertebrates. We investigated the accumulation, oxidative stress, microbial community changes, and transcriptomic alterations in apple snails ) under Cd stress. The snails were exposed to the 10 μg/L Cd solution for 16 days, followed by a 16-day elimination period.
