The galactomannan is a major cell wall molecule of Aspergillus fumigatus. This molecule is composed of a linear mannan with a repeating unit composed of four α1,6 and α1,2 linked mannose with side chains of galactofuran. To obtain a better understanding of the mannan biosynthesis in A. fumigatus, it was decided to undertake the successive deletion of the 11 genes which are putative orthologs of the mannosyltransferases responsible for establishing α1,6 and α1,2 mannose linkages in yeast. These deletions did not lead to a reduction of the mannan content of the cell wall of the mycelium of A. fumigatus. In contrast, the mannan content of the conidial cell wall was reduced and this reduction was associated with a partial disorganization of the cell wall leading to defects in conidial survival both in vitro and in vivo.

Objectives: The cell wall-less species Mycoplasma genitalium is a sexually transmitted pathogen with strong tendency to acquire resistance. Current knowledge about trends of resistance rates and differences between the risk population of men who have sex with men (MSM) and heterosexual patients as well as about circulating genotypes in both groups is limited.
Methods: Between August 2017 and December 2023, M.

Purpose: Describe the immunohistologic changes in arteriovenous fistula (AVF) stenosis treated using plain old balloon angioplasty (POBA) versus paclitaxel drug-coated balloons (DCB) MATERIALS AND METHODS: Castrated male Yorkshire pigs (n = 12) 4-5 months old had chronic kidney disease (CKD) induced with renal artery embolization. Twenty-eight days later, a side-to-end anastomosis was created between the left common carotid artery to ipsilateral external jugular vein. Four weeks later, a juxta anastomotic stenosis was treated with balloon angioplasty (PTA) or DCB and animals euthanized at 4 [POBA (n=6)] and 42 days [POBA (n=3) or DCB (n=3)] for histomorphometric analysis with immunohistochemical staining for CD-68 (macrophages), FSP-1 (fibroblasts), α-SMA (smooth muscle cells, SMCs), CD-31 (endothelial), proliferation (Ki-67), and apoptosis (TUNEL).

Heavy metal pollution is a worldwide problem that threaten agricultural production and human health. Methyl jasmonate (MeJA) is a phytohormone that could enhance plant resistance against various stresses. However, the mechanism of MeJA in cadmium (Cd) uptake, distribution, and translocation in rice plants remains elusive.

Hydrophobins are small amphiphilic proteins that confer filamentous fungal hydrophobicity needed for hyphal growth, development, dispersal and adhesion to host and substrata. In insect-pathogenic Beauveria bassiana, nine hydrophobins (class I Hyd1A-F and class II Hyd2A-C) were proven to localize on the cell walls of aerial hyphae and conidia but accumulate in the vacuoles and vesicles of submerged hyphae and blastospores, respectively. Conidial hydrophobicity, adhesion to insect cuticle, virulence via normal cuticle infection and dispersal potential were significantly more reduced by the hyd1A deletion leading to complete ablation of slender rodlets on conidial coat than the hyd1B deletion, which caused a failure to assemble morphologically irregular rodlets into orderly bundles.
