Salting-Out Assisted Liquid-Liquid Extraction for Quantification of Febuxostat in Plasma Using RP-HPLC and Its Pharmacokinetic Application. | LitMetric

AI Article Synopsis

Article Abstract

A rapid and sensitive reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method using novel salting-out assisted liquid-liquid extraction technique has been developed for the quantitative determination of febuxostat (FEB), used for the treatment of gout, in rat plasma. The method was validated according to US FDA guideline. Separation was achieved using a Phenomenex Luna-C (250 × 4.60 mm, 5 µm) column and mobile phase composed of potassium dihydrogen orthophosphate buffer 25 mM, adjusted to pH 6.8 with triethylamine:methanol in a ratio of 35:65 (v/v) showing retention time 5.56 and 8.86 min for FEB and internal standard, respectively. The optimal salting-out parameters; 1 mL of acetonitrile and 200 µL of 2 M ammonium acetate salt showed extraction recovery >90% for FEB from plasma. This extraction procedure afforded clear samples resulting in convenient and cost-saving procedure and showed good linear relationship (r > 0.9997) between peak area ratio and concentration from 0.3 to 20 µg/mL. The results of pharmacokinetic study showed that absorption profile of spherical agglomerate of FEB compared to marketed formulation was higher indicating greater systemic absorption. In conclusion, the developed SALLE-HPLC method with simple ultraviolet detection offered a number of advantages including good quantitative ability, wide linear range, high recovery, short analysis time as well as low cost.

Pesticide residue monitoring in river water is obligatory for their negative ecotoxicological consequences. The current-use pesticides (CUPs) include a diverse range of synthetic pesticides registered by regulatory bodies worldwide as an alternative to the banned organochlorine pesticides (OCPs). Nowadays, CUPs are preferred for agricultural and non-agricultural purposes due to their low persistence and moderate toxicity.

Edible insect protein concentrates: Optimized salt-assisted extraction methods evaluation.

Food Chem

February 2025

Department of Technique and Food Product Development, Institute of Human Nutrition Sciences, Warsaw University of Life Sciences, 02-776 Warsaw, Poland. Electronic address:

This study explores the extraction of proteins from edible insects such as Tenebrio molitor, Acheta domesticus, and Locusta migratoria using alkaline extraction and acid precipitation (AEAP) as a control method and evaluates the influence of salting-in (NaCl-assisted), salting-out ((NH₄)₂SO₄), and combined salting-in/out techniques on the resulting protein quality and functional properties. We hypothesized that salt-assisted methods would enhance protein extraction efficiency and functionality compared to AEAP. Molecular size distribution analysis confirmed that the salting-out method preferentially aggregated smaller proteins (<30 kDa).

Department of Immunology, School of Medicine, Hamadan University of Medical Sciences, P.O. Box: 6517838736, Mahdieh Ave, Lona Park, Hamadan, Iran.

Background: The purity of the extracted DNA is critical for successful molecular testing. This study aimed to compare the effect of various DNA extraction methods, extraction processes, and sources of consumables, such as microtubes, on PCR results.

Methods: DNA extraction from whole blood was performed using four different approaches utilizing four types of microtubes: chloroform-based, sodium perchlorate-based, heat-assisted salting out, and solid-phase extraction.

In this study, NaCl (salting-in) and (NH4)SO (salting-out) treatments were employed in alkaline extraction and acid precipitation procedures, respectively, to enhance the extraction of Tenebrio molitor larvae protein isolates (TPIs). The in vitro digestibility, rheological properties, biological activities, and proteomic analysis of TPIs were investigated. The results showed that salting-in treatment did not result in significant differences (P > 0.

The impact of inorganic salts on the ultrasonic degradation of contaminants: A review.

Ultrason Sonochem

December 2024

Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geodetic Engineering, The Ohio State University, Columbus, OH 43210, United States. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • This review investigates how inorganic salts influence the effectiveness of ultrasound-assisted degradation of various contaminants, revealing mixed research findings on the topic.
  • It analyzes 44 studies to understand the impact of salting-out effects, cavitation bubble behavior, and radical species generation on contaminant degradation, noting that high-intensity ultrasound is particularly effective in salt solutions.
  • The results indicate that while hydrophilic contaminants degrade better with increased ionic strength, many hydrophobic ones do not benefit as much, suggesting that radical-mediated processes play a key role in enhancing degradation rather than the salting-out effect.
