Objective: We examined the change in apelin concentration and its relationship with left ventricular diastolic function in patients treated for hypertension.
Methods: Ninety treatment-naive patients with newly diagnosed hypertension and 33 age- and sex-matched control subjects were prospectively enrolled. Patients with hypertension were randomized to treatment either with telmisartan 80 mg or amlodipine 10 mg. Apelin concentration was measured and echocardiography was performed at baseline and after 1 month of treatment.
Results: The data of 77 patients and 33 controls were analyzed. Mean age, gender, baseline blood pressure, apelin levels, and echocardiographic measurements were similar between the treatment groups (p>0.05 for all). Apelin concentration was significantly lower in patients with hypertension than in controls. There was a significant increase in apelin level after 1 month of treatment in both groups (0.32±0.17 vs. 0.38±0.17 ng/dL in telmisartan group, p=0.009, and 0.27±0.13 vs. 0.34±0.18 ng/dL in amlodipine group, p=0.013). Diastolic function improved significantly in both groups (p<0.05) but was not significantly associated with change in apelin concentration.
Conclusion: Apelin concentration increased significantly after 1 month of effective treatment with telmisartan or amlodipine to a similar extent. Change in apelin concentration was not associated with improvement in diastolic function.

Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome is a systemic infectious disease caused by human immunodeficiency virus infection, which could attack the bones and heart. However, the relationship between Nuclear Complex Associated 3 Homolog (NOC3L) and DEAD box helicase 17 (DDX17) and acquired immunodeficiency complicated with viral myocarditis and osteoporosis is unclear. The acquired immune deficiency dataset GSE140713, GSE147162 and the osteoporosis dataset (GSE230665), and viral myocarditis dataset (GSE150392) configuration files were generated from gene expression omnibus.

Background: Based on the compelling experimental evidence supporting apelin's beneficial effects on muscle metabolism, our study aimed to evaluate the role of circulating apelin levels as a biomarker for muscle health in humans.
Methods: This investigation employed a cross-sectional design, encompassing 237 community-dwelling older adults aged ≥65 years who underwent comprehensive geriatric evaluations in South Korea. Sarcopenia diagnosis was based on Asian-specific criteria, and serum apelin concentrations were determined using enzyme immunoassay techniques.

To date, only a limited number of studies have investigated the potential effects of apelin on mood regulation and emotional behavior. Therefore, this study investigated apelin's role in major depressive disorder (MDD) by comparing the serum and plasma apelin concentrations between 30 patients with MDD and 30 healthy controls (HCs), and the correlated serum and plasma apelin levels and the severity of depressive symptoms using the Montgomery-Åsberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS). Blood samples were collected following 12 h of fasting, and the apelin levels were measured using an ELISA kit.

Objective: To assess whether alterations in maternal serum apelin-13 levels differ between early-onset preeclampsia (EO-PE) and late-onset preeclampsia (LO-PE).
Materials And Methods: A prospective case-control study included 90 preeclamptic cases and 90 normotensive healthy pregnant women as controls. Preeclampsia cases were subclassified as EO-PE and LO-PE.
