Complete mitochondrial genomes of five syllids (Streptosyllis sp., Eusyllis blomstrandi, Myrianida brachycephala, Typosyllis antoni and Typosyllis sp.) have been obtained using Illumina sequencing. Together with two previous studied taxa (Ramisyllis multicaudata and Trypanobia cryptica), the analysed sequences represent most of the main lineages within the family Syllidae (Anoplosyllinae, Eusyllinae, Autolytinae and Syllinae). The genomic features, gene order and phylogenetic relationships are examined. Unusual for annelids, syllid mitochondrial genomes are highly variable in their gene order. Considering genomic features, such as length, skewness, gene content, and codon bias, most similar to the rest of annelids are the genomes of E. blomstrandi and M. brachycephala, while Streptosyllis sp. and the analysed sylline taxa (R. multicaudata, T. cryptica, T. antoni and Typosyllis sp.) are the most dissimilar. Two methionine tRNA's (trnM) have been found in T. antoni and Typosyllis sp. The mt genomes of these latter taxa are the longest with numerous non-coding regions. The 13 protein coding genes, as well as the rRNA's are used to perform phylogenetic analyses that recovered the relationships within the family explored before by previous authors. The gene order in Syllidae shows very different patterns. E. blomstrandi and M. prolifera show a similar pattern to the one found in Pleistoannelida; however this might have changed at least twice within Syllidae: in Streptosyllis sp. and within Syllinae. All analysed Syllinae show different gene orders, thereby illustrating more variability as all other pleistoannelids analysed so far. The information provided herein allows a more accurate reconstruction of the possible evolutionary scenarios in Syllidae.

Objective: Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm (TAA) represents an aortic pathology that is caused by the deranged integrity of the three layers of the aortic wall, and is related to severe morbidity and mortality. Consequently, it is crucial to identify the biomarkers implicated in the pathogenesis and biology of TAA. The aim of the current computational study was to assess the differential gene expression profile of the gap junction proteins (GJPs) in patients with TAA in order to identify novel potential biomarkers for the diagnosis and treatment of this disease.

Melanin with antioxidant and antibacterial properties can be used in food, cosmetics, biotechnology, and other fields, but its insolubility become a main challenge hindering for its application. In this study, water-soluble melanin produced by the novel species Streptomyces vilmorinianum YP1 was characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), UVvisible spectroscopy (with an absorption peak at 220nm), and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The glycosyltransferase gene ORF14 was knocked out, which improved the production of water-soluble melanin by inhibiting competitive pathway.

Given the environmental and ecological risks posed by wastewater bearing Mo, the characteristics and microscopic interactions of existing silica-based adsorbents have not been thoroughly investigated, highlighting the need to enhance the porosity and chemical interactions of these materials. Considering the effectiveness of amino groups in binding metal oxyanions, this study investigates the adsorption performance and mechanism of amino-functionalized MCM-41 for Mo(VI), with the goal of efficiently remediating Mo-contaminated wastewater. MCM-41 modified by amino group retains its original structure and mesoporous characteristics while featuring a positively charged surface and chemically bonded amino groups.

The Arabidopsis root apical meristem is an excellent model for studying plant organ growth that involves a coordinated process of cell division, elongation, and differentiation, while each tissue type develops on its own schedule. Among these tissues, the protophloem is particularly important, differentiating early to supply nutrients and signalling molecules to the growing root tip. The OCTOPUS (OPS) protein and its homolog OPS-LIKE 2 (OPL2) are essential for proper root protophloem differentiation and, likely through this role, indirectly promote root growth.

A well-constructed pollen wall is essential for pollen fertility, which relies on the contribution of tapetum. Our results demonstrate an essential role of the tapetum-expressed protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A) B'α and B'β in pollen wall formation. The b'aβ double mutant pollen grains harbored sticky remnants and tectum breakages, resulting in failed release.
