Article Abstract

Purpose: To estimate the fitting parameters of the hybrid contact lens in patients with corneal ectasia using the rigid gas permeable (RGP) lens.

Methods: Thirty-four eyes with corneal ectasia were evaluated in this study. The patients were examined once with the RGP lens and once with the hybrid contact lens. The relationship between the base curvature of the RGP and the vault of the hybrid lens and the correlation between their powers were analyzed.

Results: We found a linear relationship between the base curvature of the RGP lens and the vault of the hybrid lens (P < 0.001) (R(2) = 0.45). Moreover, we found a correlation between the power of the RGP and hybrid lens (P < 0.001) (R(2) = 0.4). However, a 0.5 mm decrease in the base curvature radius of the RGP lens increased the vault of the hybrid lens by 72 μ.

Conclusion: The results of this study could be used for better and faster selection of the first hybrid contact lens.

Background: While key to interpreting findings and assessing generalizability, implementation fidelity is underreported in mobile health (mHealth) literature. We evaluated implementation fidelity of an opt-in, hybrid, two-way texting (2wT) intervention previously demonstrated to improve 12-month retention on antiretroviral therapy (ART) among people living with HIV (PLHIV) in a quasi-experimental study in Lilongwe, Malawi.

Methods: Short message service (SMS) data and ART refill visit records were used to evaluate adherence to 2wT content, frequency and duration through the lens of the Conceptual Framework for Implementation Fidelity.

Through the lens of Guruprasad Kaginele's novel , the issues of intolerance and distrust that exist in American rural hospitals-where the Indian immigrant doctors fail to understand the inhibitions and apprehensions of the African immigrant birthing mothers, turning them into objects of mockery and disgust, despite sharing colonial histories of racialised discrimination, biases and prejudices-are examined. The ruptured relationship between Indian immigrant doctors and Sanghaali Muslim immigrant birthing mothers dramatised in the novel provides an insight into how Indian immigrant doctors' psyche is unconsciously imbued with medical coloniality, which has not received much scholarly attention. Drawing on critical approaches such as various orders of gaze-male, medical, colonial and imperial-and the concept of intersectionality, the hybrid subjectivities of the Indian immigrant doctors, ruptured doctor-patient relationship, and non-agentic status of the immigrant birthing mothers as represented in the novel are analysed.

Identification of lens-regulated genes driving anterior eye development.

Signals from the lens regulate multiple aspects of eye development, including establishment of eye size, patterning of the presumptive iris and ciliary body in the anterior optic cup and migration and differentiation of neural crest cells. To advance understanding of the molecular mechanism by which the lens regulates eye development, we performed transcriptome profiling of embryonic chicken retinas after lens removal. Genes associated with nervous system development were upregulated in lens-removed eyes, but the presumptive ciliary body and iris region did not adopt a neural retina identity following lens removal.

Background: Radiographic skeletal survey plays an important role in the diagnosis of infant abuse. Some practitioners have expressed concerns about the radiation exposure from this examination.

Objective: To utilize state-of-the-art hybrid computational phantoms to more accurately estimate radiation doses of skeletal surveys performed for suspected infant abuse.

Background: Implementation and hybrid effectiveness-implementation trials aspire to speed the translation of science into practice by generating crucial evidence for improving the uptake of effective health interventions. By design, they pose unique recruitment and retention challenges due to their aims, units of analysis, and sampling plans, which typically require many clinical sites (i.e.
