Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the fractional anisotropy (FA) and mean diffusivity (MD) using a diffusion tensor imaging technique and whole-brain voxel-based analysis in patients with comitant strabismus.
Patients And Methods: A total of 19 (nine males and ten females) patients with comitant strabismus and 19 age-, sex-, and education-matched healthy controls (HCs) underwent magnetic resonance imaging examination. Imaging data were analyzed using two-sample t-tests to identify group differences in FA and MD values. Patients with comitant strabismus were distinguishable from HCs by receiver operating characteristic curves.
Results: Compared with HCs, patients with comitant strabismus exhibited significantly decreased FA values in the brain regions of the left superior temporal gyrus and increased values in the bilateral medial frontal gyrus, right globus pallidus/brainstem, and bilateral precuneus. Meanwhile, MD value was significantly reduced in the brain regions of the bilateral cerebellum posterior lobe and left middle frontal gyrus but increased in the brain regions of the right middle frontal gyrus and left anterior cingulate.
Conclusion: These results suggest significant brain abnormalities in comitant strabismus, which may underlie the pathologic mechanisms of fusion defects and ocular motility disorders in patients with comitant strabismus.

Purpose: To determine demographic and sensorimotor characteristics of patients with nonacute acquired comitant esotropia with distance diplopia (NACEDD).
Methods: History, demographic, and sensorimotor characteristics of all patients ≥10 years of age presenting with esotropia and gradual-onset distance diplopia at Boston Children's Hospital (2017-2022) were collected. Definition of NACEDD required absence of inflammatory, autoimmune, mechanical, or neurologic causes of strabismus.
Purpose: To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of botulinum toxin type A (BTXA) injection with reduced volume without electromyographic guidance for the treatment of acute acquired comitant esotropia (AACE) of 25 prism diopters (PD) or less.
Methods: The authors reviewed the medical records of 60 patients with AACE of 25 PD or less, including 40 patients treated with BTXA injections (BTXA group) and 20 patients treated with Fresnel prism (Fresnel prism group). Patients in the BTXA group were injected with 5 to 6.
Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of a single dose of botulinum toxin A injection into the medial rectus muscle to treat acute acquired concomitant esotropia (AACE).
Methods: This observational case series study included patients diagnosed as having AACE from January 2021 to December 2023 at a tertiary eye care center in South India willing to undergo botulinum toxin injections as the first treatment who experienced sudden-onset esotropia with diplopia. Their demographics, duration of symptoms, and visual acuity were recorded.
