The synthesis of symmetric cyclo poly(ε-caprolactone)-block-poly(l(d)-lactide) (c(PCL-b-PL(D)LA)) by combining ring-opening polymerization of ε-caprolactone and lactides and subsequent click chemistry reaction of the linear precursors containing antagonist functionalities is presented. The two blocks can sequentially crystallize and self-assemble into double crystalline spherulitic superstructures. The cyclic chain topology significantly affects both the nucleation and the crystallization of each constituent, as gathered from a comparison of the behavior of linear precursors and cyclic block copolymers. The stereochemistry of the PLA block does not have a significant effect on the nonisothermal crystallization of both linear and cyclo PCL-b-PDLA and PCL-b-PLLA copolymers.

Mechanistic Insights into CO Adsorption of LiSiO at High Temperature.

Materials (Basel)

January 2025

Hunan Key Laboratory of Applied Environmental Photocatalysis, School of Materials and Environmental Engineering, Changsha University, Changsha 410022, China.

The development of materials with high adsorption capacity for capturing CO from industrial exhaust gases has proceeded rapidly in recent years. LiSiO has attracted attention due to its low cost, high capture capacity, and good cycling stability for direct high-temperature CO capture. Thus far, the CO adsorption mechanism of LiSiO is poorly understood, and detailed phase transformations during the CO adsorption process are missing.

Figure-eight macrocycles represent a fascinating class of π-conjugated units characterized by unique aesthetics and non-contact molecular crossing at the center. Despite progress in synthesis over the past century, research into inorganic, organic, and polymeric figure-eight materials remains in its infancy. Here we report the first examples of figure-eight covalent organic frameworks by condensing figure-eight knots to create extended porous figure-eight π architectures.

This study explores the effect of fatty acid chain length in regulating the structural changes and physicochemical properties of high-amylose maize starch (HAMS) induced by annealing with fatty acid solution (AFAS). AFAS was found to effectively regulate the conformation of amylose molecular chains within starch granules. Annealing with fatty acids of shorter chain length, such as lauric acid, promoted the formation of both double and single helices within HAMS granules.

The spatial distribution of fat crystals significantly impacts the stability and digestion properties of emulsions. This study investigated the templating effect of monoglycerides in controlling the spatial distribution of solid fat crystallization within double emulsions. Double emulsions were formulated with glyceryl monostearate (GMS), glyceryl monolaurate (GML), glyceryl monooleate (GMO), beeswax (BW), glyceryl distearate (GDS), and glyceryl tristearate (GTS) in the oil phase.

The objective of this research is to develop a natural macromolecules-based smart double-layer film using carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) film containing pomegranate peel anthocyanins (PPA) and cellulose acetate nanofibers (CANFs) with Artemisia sieberi Besser essential oil-loaded nanostructured lipid carriers (ABNLCs). Based on the performance as a color indicator, and other studied properties, the CMC/PPA 8 % film was selected as the optimized film. The double-layer film was constructed by electrospinning the CANFs containing ABNLCs on the optimized CMC film.
