We report on four radio-detected cosmic-ray (CR) or CR-like events observed with the Antarctic Impulsive Transient Antenna (ANITA), a NASA-sponsored long-duration balloon payload. Two of the four were previously identified as stratospheric CR air showers during the ANITA-I flight. A third stratospheric CR was detected during the ANITA-II flight. Here, we report on characteristics of these three unusual CR events, which develop nearly horizontally, 20-30 km above the surface of Earth. In addition, we report on a fourth steeply upward-pointing ANITA-I CR-like radio event which has characteristics consistent with a primary that emerged from the surface of the ice. This suggests a possible τ-lepton decay as the origin of this event, but such an interpretation would require significant suppression of the standard model τ-neutrino cross section.

Background: Transvenous pacemakers (TVP) and leadless pacemakers (LP) are two reliable permanent modalities for the treatment of heart rhythm disorders. Several observational studies explored the safety and efficacy of the two devices. The aim of this meta-analysis study is to present a comparative analysis of the safety of leadless versus transvenous pacemakers.

Long-term hydrological drought monitoring and trend analysis in Blue Nile River basin.

Heliyon

January 2025

Department of Hydraulics and Water Resource Engineering, Kombolcha Institute of Technology, KioT, Wollo University, Ethiopia.

This research aims to monitor the hydrological drought trends within the geographical confines of Ethiopia, Sudan, and Egypt in the Blue Nile River Basin. Historical drought circumstances in the basin were analyzed through the utilization of the stream flow drought index (SDI). The long-term historical drought trend was investigated via the application of the Mann - Kendall Sen (MK) test.

This study investigates the safety of three different daily dosages of a liquid blend containing kava and kratom (Feel Free® Classic Tonic {FFCT}) in healthy adults over six consecutive days of supplementation. Both kava and kratom have been used traditionally for hundreds of years, but there is limited data on the combined safety of these ingredients. In this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, the participants were assigned to receive one of three daily dosages of FFCT or placebo.

A Probabilistic Liquefaction Hazard Analysis: Case Studies from the Marmara Region.

Geotech Geol Eng (Dordr)

January 2025

School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering, The University of Sheffield, Sheffield, UK.

Earthquake induced soil liquefaction poses a significant threat to buildings and infrastructure, as evidenced by numerous catastrophic seismic events. Existing approaches of regional liquefaction hazard assessment predominantly rely on deterministic analysis methods. This paper presents a novel Probabilistic Liquefaction Hazard Analysis (PLHA) framework based on Monte-Carlo (MC) simulations to mitigate future seismic risks associated with liquefaction.

Magnetic resonance imaging after laparotomy of fetal evacuation in advanced abdominal pregnancy.

Radiol Case Rep

March 2025

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Airlangga University, Soetomo General Hospital, Surabaya, Indonesia.

Abdominal pregnancy (AP) is a rare event of globally reported pregnancy and is significantly challenging to diagnose because of various symptoms. Therefore, we aimed to present a case of a 26-year-old female with unexpected AP of third pregnancy found during emergency fetal evacuation laparotomy. The possible scenario was found to be fetus implanted into the fibroid scar of her obstetric history, leading to complications with uterine rupture.
