The application of laser as a monotherapy has been shown to reduce probing pocket depths and increase clinical attachment levels after treatment of patients suffering from chronic periodontitis. Its controversial use as an adjunct to scaling and root planing (SRP) is discussed. The present study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of adjunctive Er, Cr:YSGG laser application following conventional SRP. A total of 30 patients with chronic periodontitis were enrolled in the study. The quadrants of each patient were allocated to either SRP or SRP + laser. A total of 3,654 sites with pocket depths ≥ 4 mm were treated and evaluated at 6 weeks and 6 months postoperatively with respect to attachment gain. Both therapies resulted in improved probing pocket depths and clinical attachment levels. The adjunctive application of Er, Cr:YSGG laser following SRP did not improve probing pocket depth or attachment level compared with SRP alone.

Objectives: Effective disinfection of the root canals is the cornerstone of successful endodontic treatment. Diminishing the microbial load within the root canal system is crucial for healing in endodontically treated teeth. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of 2780 nm Er,Cr:YSGG and 940 nm diode lasers on the eradication of microorganisms from single-rooted teeth with asymptomatic apical periodontitis.

This study investigated the effect of Er:YAG (smart 2940 Dplus, DEKA, Italy) and Er:CrYSGG (Waterlase iPlus, Biolase, USA) lasers on the shear bond strength (SBS) between the orthodontic brackets and dental porcelain in comparison with conventional acid etching with 9% hydrofluoric acid (HF, Ultradent, USA). A total of 60 specimens of maxillary incisor crown were prepared and randomly assigned to five groups; each group was subjected to a different porcelain surface conditioning: (1) etching with the 9% HF for 2 min; (2) etching with the 9% HF for 2 min followed by irradiation with the Er:CrYSGG laser (3-W power, 10-Hz frequency for 10 s); (3) etching with the 9% HF for 2 min followed by irradiation with the Er:YAG laser (3-W power, 10-Hz frequency for 10 s); (4) Irradiation with the Er:CrYSGG laser (3-W power, 10-Hz frequency for 10 s without acid etching) and (5) irradiation with the Er:YAG laser (3-W power,10-Hz frequency for 10 s without acid etching). After using Transbond XT primer and Transbond XT adhesive, the metal brackets (Dentaurum, Germany equilibrium 2, optimal design) bonded to the conditioned porcelain surface.

The aim of this study was to compare the effect of Waterlase laser and ultrasonic root end cavity preparation on the integrity of root end in extracted human teeth. The canals of 60 extracted maxillary central incisors were cleaned, shaped, obturated and 3 mm of the root end was resected and examined for the presence of any cracks. Class I root-end cavities were then prepared using an ultrasonic unit or Waterlase laser.

Eruption cysts are benign cysts that appear on the mucosa of a tooth shortly before its eruption. The majority disappear on their own. If they hurt, bleed or are infected they may require surgical treatment to expose the tooth and drain the content.
