Immunoendocrinology or the study of the effects of sex steroids and sex chromatin on immune diseases was pioneered by Henry G. Kunkel. In the disease lupus (SLE) the prevalence of female disease is high; the sex ratio is 10 females to every male after puberty. Since Kunkel's death the influences of triggering epitopes like viruses, histocompatibility, the hypothalamic pituitary-adrenocortical axis, nervous system and the effect of sex steroids are all recognized as contributing factors to pathogenesis. It is too simple to say that sex and genetics are the final reason for the female predominance of SLE. Today the likely cause of the disease involves the epigenetics of sex chromatin and the factors detailed above.

Aim Of The Study: This study was performed to investigate the hepatic expression of glucocorticoid receptors (GR) and 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1 (11β-HSD1) in pediatric autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) patients and its relation to the steroid response.
Material And Methods: This study included 100 patients diagnosed with AIH on immunosuppressive therapy with different responses to treatment. The patients were subjected to full history taking and thorough clinical examination, laboratory investigations, abdominal ultrasound and liver biopsy for histopathological evaluation and assessment of the hepatic expression of GR and 11β-HSD1.

The twin testosterone transfer (TTT) hypothesis posits that females with male co-twins (opposite-sex, OS) might develop male-typical traits due to higher prenatal testosterone exposure. This study explored whether females of OS have lower 2D:4D digit ratios and higher testosterone levels compared to females of same-sex (SS) twin pairs. Conducted in Tamale from January to December 2022, the study included 40 participants aged 18-27 years: 10 males of OS, 10 females of OS, and 20 females of SS twin pairs.

The essential cause of menopause is ovarian failure, which can cause decline in sex hormones (especially estrogen) that can increase the risk of metabolic diseases, such as cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis. This study screened 1511 eligible patients from 2148 perimenopausal and postmenopausal women, measuring various physiological and biochemical indicators to analyze differences among age groups (40-44, 45-49, and 50-54 years) with laboratory techniques. The study found no significant difference in the incidence of cardiovascular disease betweenperimenopausal and postmenopausal women.

Establishing specific reference intervals (RIs) of serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 [25(OH)D] for children is essential for improving the accuracy of diagnosis and prognosis monitoring of diseases such as rickets and growth retardation. The study including 6,627 healthy children was conducted to establish specific RIs of 25(OH)D for children in Nanning area of China. The results showed that there were statistically significant differences among age, season, and gender of serum 25(OH)D levels, and the age-specific RIs of serum 25(OH)D were 20.
