Aim: A delayed-release dual delivery system for amoxicillin and the probiotic Lactobacillus acidophilus was developed and evaluated.
Materials & Methods: Statistical optimization of a cross-linked denatured ovalbumin protective matrix was first synthesized using a Box-Behnken experimental design prior to encapsulation with glyceryl monostereate. The encapsulated ovalbumin matrix was thereafter incorporated with amoxicillin in a gastro-resistant capsule. In vitro characterization and stability analysis of the ovalbumin and encapsulated components were also performed Results: Protection of L. acidophilus probiotic against the bactericidal effects of amoxicillin within the dual formulation was determined.
Conclusion: The dual formulation in this study proved effective and provides insight into current microbiome research to identify, classify and use functional healthy bacteria to develop novel probiotic delivery technologies.

Cellulosic nanomaterials have significantly promoted the development of sensing devices, drug delivery, and bioreactor processes. Their synthetic flexibility makes them a prominent choice for immobilizing biomolecules or cells. In this work, we developed a practical and user-friendly approach to accessing cellulose nanoparticles (CNPs).

The ligand-binding pocket of the androgen receptor (AR) is the targeting site of all clinically used AR antagonists. However, various drug-resistant mutations emerged in the pocket. We previously reported a new targeting site at the dimer interface of AR (dimer interface pocket) and identified a novel antagonist M17-B15 that failed in oral administration.

Sepsis is a life-threatening disease characterized by excessive systemic inflammation and coagulopathy. Platelets and neutrophils form a "dangerous alliance" through crosstalk, promoting the inflammatory cytokine storm and coagulation disorders during sepsis. Platelet-neutrophil crosstalk leads to the formation of platelet-neutrophil complexes (PNCs), which are the central "protagonists" of this "dangerous alliance.

Wound infections are characterized by the invasion of microorganisms into bodily tissues, leading to inflammation and potentially affecting any type of wound, including surgical incisions and chronic ulcers. If left untreated, they can delay recovery and cause tissue damage. Healthcare providers face challenges in treating these infections, which necessitate efficient treatment plans involving microbiological testing and clinical evaluation.

Background: The aging global population and the rising prevalence of chronic disease and multimorbidity have strained health care systems, driving the need for expanded health care resources. Transitioning to home-based care (HBC) may offer a sustainable solution, supported by technological innovations such as Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) platforms. However, the full potential of IoMT platforms to streamline health care delivery is often limited by interoperability challenges that hinder communication and pose risks to patient safety.
