Article Synopsis
  • - The study focuses on the need to identify various causes of respiratory failure in myasthenia gravis (MG) patients, considering both myasthenic and non-myasthenic factors.
  • - Three case studies are presented, highlighting different respiratory failure presentations: hypercarbic respiratory failure in a long-term MG patient, glottal stenosis in another MG patient, and hypoxia due to a patent foramen ovale in an elderly MG patient.
  • - The findings stress the importance of thorough clinical evaluation, as symptoms of respiratory distress may not always be apparent in MG, and alternative causes of hypoxia should be investigated.

The aim of this case series report is to provide a new topical view of styletubation (video intubating stylet technique) in obese patients undergoing bariatric surgeries. In contrast to various conventional direct laryngoscopes (DLs), videolaryngoscopes (VLs) have been applied in such obese populations with potentially difficult airway complications. The safety and effectiveness of VLs have been repeatedly studied, and the superiority of VLs has then been observed in and advocated for routine use.

Surfactant delivery by aerosol inhalation - past, present, and future.

Semin Fetal Neonatal Med

Albany Medical College, Albany, NY, USA; ONY Biotech, Amherst, NY, USA. Electronic address:

Surfactant replacement therapy (SRT) by nebulization to spontaneously breathing patients has been regarded as the Holy Grail since surfactant deficiency was first identified as the cause for neonatal respiratory distress syndrome. It avoids neonatal endotracheal intubation, a procedure that is often difficult and occasionally harmful. Unapproved alternatives to endotracheal tube placement for liquid surfactant instillation, such as LISA (thin catheter intubation) and SALSA (supraglottic airway insertion) have significant merit but are still invasive, leaving nebulized SRT as the only truly non-invasive method.

Insights from a cross-sectional survey of neonatal resuscitation instructors from India.

Sci Rep

September 2023

Department of Central Research Services, Pramukhswami Medical College, Bhaikaka University, Karamsad, Anand, Gujarat, India.

Neonatal resuscitation training can change outcomes of neonatal mortality due to perinatal asphyxia. Recently, in 2021, the advanced NRP course material was changed, and for Basic NRP, a hybrid course was introduced in India. We assessed the instructor's feedback to improve the conduct of the IAP NNF NRP Program as well as get their perception of the effectiveness, usefulness, and pitfalls of the new hybrid Basic NRP course (offline + online).
