Forensic teams work with the deceased and their families on a daily basis. The forensic team fulfills an important role during the death process and serves as a medium between the medical community and investigative community. The medical examiner, or coroner, depending on jurisdiction, plays a critical role in the death investigation, whose assessments and findings are a key element in care for the deceased in relation to the investigation. Communication regarding care for the deceased is critical to the completion of the investigation. Nine key discussion points are addressed as a means to launch communications between the forensic team and the medical examiner/coroner's office.

Objective: To investigate the dynamics of collaborative learning in team-based learning (TBL) through students' reflections and feedback.

Methods: A phenomenological mixed-methods approach was adopted where the survey and reflections were conducted concurrently after the TBL session and the results were analyzed. The study employed a mini-cluster technique to include all first-year MBBS students of batch 2023-24 with an age range between 19 and 22 years.

This study evaluates mathematical tools (principal component analysis, dynamic time warping, and the Kolmogorov-Smirnov hypothesis test) to analyse global and local data from dynamic signatures to reduce subjectivity and increase the reproducibility of handwriting examination using a two-step approach. A dataset composed of 1 800 genuine signature samples, 870 simulated signatures, and 60 disguises (30 formally similar or "autosimulated" and 30 random but different from usual) provided by 30 volunteers was collected. The first step involved global data analysis using principal component analysis and a hypothesis test performed for 62 global characteristics, and associations of these characteristics were analysed through calculations of multivariate distance followed by a hypothesis test.

Implementing Mutational Epidemiology on a Global Scale: Lessons from Mutographs.

Cancer Discov

January 2025

Department of Analytical, Environmental and Forensic Sciences, School of Cancer & Pharmaceutical Sciences, King's College London, London, United Kingdom.

The Mutographs Cancer Grand Challenge team aimed to discover unknown causes of cancer through mutational epidemiology, an alliance of cancer epidemiology and somatic genomics. By generating whole-genome sequences from thousands of cancers and normal tissues from more than 30 countries on five continents, it discovered unsuspected mutagenic exposures affecting millions of people, raised the possibility that some carcinogens act by altering forces of selection in tissue microenvironments rather than by mutagenesis, and demonstrated changes to the direction of somatic evolution in normal cells of the human body in response to exogenous exposures and noncancer diseases.
