Potential of water sediments in construction materials: Current approaches and critical consideration of future challenges.

Heliyon

January 2025

Department of Materials Engineering and Chemistry, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague, Thákurova 7, 166 29, Prague 6, Czech Republic.

Human activities result in sediment accumulation, so the reservoirs gradually lose their functionality, impacting their ability to manage large flood inflows, supply water, and generate hydroelectric power. Therefore, periodic removal of sediments from water reservoirs is essential to maintain functionality. Notwithstanding, the management of dredged sediments is a multifaceted process that involves careful consideration of environmental, regulatory, and economic factors to ensure their responsibility and sustainable handling.

NAC4ED: A high-throughput computational platform for the rational design of enzyme activity and substrate selectivity.

mLife

December 2024

Shanghai Engineering Research Center of Molecular Therapeutics & New Drug Development School of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering, East China Normal University Shanghai China.

In silico computational methods have been widely utilized to study enzyme catalytic mechanisms and design enzyme performance, including molecular docking, molecular dynamics, quantum mechanics, and multiscale QM/MM approaches. However, the manual operation associated with these methods poses challenges for simulating enzymes and enzyme variants in a high-throughput manner. We developed the NAC4ED, a high-throughput enzyme mutagenesis computational platform based on the "near-attack conformation" design strategy for enzyme catalysis substrates.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the predictive performance of published amisulpride population pharmacokinetic (PopPK) models in schizophrenia patients with an external data set and establish remedial dosing regimens for nonadherent amisulpride-treated patients.

Methods: A systematic search was conducted on PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science to identify PopPK models for evaluation. The evaluation process involved analyzing 390 serum concentration samples obtained from 361 Chinese adult inpatients diagnosed with schizophrenia.

Background: TNF-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) belongs to the tumor necrosis factor superfamily. TRAIL selectively induces apoptosis in tumor cells while sparing normal cells, which makes it an attractive candidate for cancer therapy. Recombinant soluble TRAIL and agonistic antibodies against TRAIL receptors have demonstrated safety and tolerability in clinical trials.

Efficacy of vaccines based on chimeric or multiepitope antigens for protection against visceral leishmaniasis: A systematic review.

PLoS Negl Trop Dis

December 2024

Genômica Funcional de Parasitos, Instituto René Rachou-Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil.

Background: Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) is an infectious parasitic disease caused by the species Leishmania (Leishmania) infantum in the Mediterranean Basin, the Middle East, Central Asia, South America, and Central America, and Leishmania (Leishmania) donovani in Asia and Africa. VL represents the most severe and systemic form of the disease and is fatal if left untreated. Vaccines based on chimeric or multiepitope antigens hold significant potential to induce a highly effective and long-lasting immune response against infections by these parasites.
