The primary objective of this study is to enhance the detection and staging of pressure injuries using machine learning capabilities for precise image analysis. This study explores the application of the You Only Look Once version 8 (YOLOv8) deep learning model for pressure injury staging. We prepared a high-quality, publicly available dataset to evaluate different variants of YOLOv8 (YOLOv8n, YOLOv8s, YOLOv8m, YOLOv8l, and YOLOv8x) and five optimizers (Adam, AdamW, NAdam, RAdam, and stochastic gradient descent) to determine the most effective configuration.

Intravenous Vitamin C in Critically Ill Adult Patients With Burns: An Integrative Review.

Nutrition

February 2025

Intensive Care Unit, Department of Critical Care, Hospital de Clínicas (University Hospital), Faculty of Medicine, Universidad de la República, Montevideo, Uruguay.

Early fluid resuscitation may cause fluid overload in seriously ill burn patients, which is associated with losses of micronutrients and poor clinical outcomes. Over the past two to three decades, several animal studies and clinical trials have demonstrated that high-dose intravenous vitamin C may reduce fluid requirements, body weight gain, and wound edema, improving gas exchange and renal function in the acute phase after burn injury. Vitamin C is a scavenger of oxygen free radicals in the endothelium, which can limit the inflammatory response and ischemia-reperfusion injury, promoting wound healing.

Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma (HNSCC) is a heterogeneous group of malignancies with poor survival outcomes, particularly in advanced stages. Identifying prognostic biomarkers could help improve patient management. miR-375, a small non-coding RNA, has been shown to influence tumor growth and immune responses, making it a candidate biomarker.

The current treatment of radiation-induced skin wounds utilizes mainly conventional therapies, including topical steroids, creams, ointments, and hydrogel dressings, which do not take into account the immunologic changes that occur in the skin after radiation exposure. Therefore, it is relevant to consider alternative therapies and their impact on changes in the immune landscape of the skin. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of allogeneic minimally manipulated keratinocytes and fibroblasts on rat skin repair and the development of immune responses.
