Minimally invasive surgery is gaining tremendous popularity in reconstructive foot and ankle surgery, as well as with trauma. Minimally invasive approaches have demonstrated equivalent to outcomes to traditional open incisional approaches with the added benefit of less risk for wound healing complications and surgical site infections. Advances in orthopedic hardware and surgical techniques are allowing minimal incision surgery for trauma to become more widespread.

Hormone monitoring of at-risk species can be valuable for evaluation of individual physiological status. Traditional non-invasive endocrine monitoring from urine and faeces typically captures only a short window in time, poorly reflecting long-term hormone fluctuations. We examined toenail trimmings collected from African () and Asian () elephants during routine foot care, to determine if long-term hormone patterns are preserved in these slow-growing keratinized tissues.

Surgical treatment has been established as the standard method for the treatment of intertrochanteric fractures in the elderly. The design of internal fixation devices has become the key to improve surgical outcomes and reduce postoperative complications. Centered on optimizing biomechanical performance and minimally invasive implantation, coupled with continuous material improvements, the design philosophy of internal fixation devices has also been constantly evolving.

Introduction: Metacarpal fractures account for 25%-50% of all hand fractures and may negatively impact hand function and ability to work. Percutaneous transverse pinning of non-articular metacarpal fractures allows mobilisation immediately after the procedure.
Methods: Between March 2017 and February 2022, 56 patients undergoing percutaneous transverse pinning for unstable metacarpal fractures were prospectively recruited.
