Objectives: Preoperative radiotherapy followed by surgery is an effective treatment option for solid tumors including locally advanced squamous cell cancers of the head and neck region. Histopathologic response to radiation has been shown to be associated with survival. However, the relative prognostic importance of regression grade compared to other potential biomarkers has not been established yet.

Materials And Methods: One-hundred forty-four oral squamous cell carcinoma patients with stage III/IV disease were included in this analysis. Patients had received preoperative radiotherapy (RT) up to 50Gy total dose in combination with 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU)/Mitomycin C (MMC) or with Cetuximab, followed by radical surgery six to eight weeks later. Outcome data were obtained from the patient's files. Survival rates were estimated by the Kaplan-Meyer method. Cox-proportional-hazard regression models were used to compare the risk of death among patients stratified according to risk factors.

Results: Five-year overall survival (OS) was 58% in the presented collective. Regression grade 4 (HR 3.58; p<0.001) was most significantly associated with reduced survival, followed by elevated neutrophils (HR 2.22; p=0.01), the combination of elevated neutrophils plus elevated CRP (HR 2.40; p=0.01), and elevated CRP alone (HR 1.74; p=0.03). In a multivariate analysis, the regression grade remained the most influential predictor of outcome (HR 4.23; p<0.001).

Conclusion: In a comparative analysis, tumor response to pre-operative radiotherapy remains the strongest prognostic factor for treatment outcome, while elevated CRP, as well as neutrophils, were also found to be of significance.

Oligorecurrent prostate cancer (PCa) can be treated with metastasis-directed therapy (MDT), which may be performed using radioguided surgery (RGS) as an experimental approach. These procedures have shown promising outcomes, largely due to the high lesion detection rate of positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT). We present a case series of patients who underwent RGS following robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP).

Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA) is a highly malignant tumor of the liver and gallbladder, which is usually diagnosed at an advanced stage and the opportunity for surgery is lost. Therefore, conversion therapy is important to convert the iCCA into a resectable state. In recent years, the conversion protocol of immuno-chemotherapy has been applied for advanced liver cancer.

Department of Surgery, Surgical Oncology and Science, Sapporo Medical University, Sapporo, Japan.

Defecation disorders following rectal resection have long been overlooked as an inevitable surgical complication due to the lack of established diagnostic criteria or definitions. However, these disorders have been recently termed low anterior resection syndrome (LARS), which is a defecation disorder that occurs following rectal resection and impairs the patient's quality of life (QOL). The LARS score developed by Emmertsen et al.

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the safety and long-term outcomes of a one-stage resection and anastomosis approach without preoperative decompression in patients with left-sided incomplete obstructive colorectal cancer.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of 571 patients diagnosed with pT3-4NanyM0 left-sided colorectal cancer who underwent radical resection and primary anastomosis without preoperative decompression or a diverting stoma from April 2012 to December 2019. Of these, 97 (17%) patients presented with incomplete obstruction, while 474 (83%) had no obstruction.
