Purpose: To determine the degree of tolerance toward different magnitudes of residual refractive astigmatism and corneal astigmatism and the angles of corneal astigmatism after implantation of an asymmetric multifocal intraocular lens (IOL).
Setting: Cathedral Eye Clinic, Belfast, United Kingdom.
Design: Retrospective comparative case series.
Methods: The study enrolled patients having refractive lens exchange and implantation of a Lentis Mplus LS-312 MF30 IOL. Uncorrected (UDVA) and corrected distance visual acuities, uncorrected near and intermediate visual acuities, and quality-of-vision questionnaires were evaluated. Groups were categorized based on the magnitude of refractive astigmatism and corneal residual astigmatism. Refractive astigmatism of less than 0.50 diopter (D) and more than 0.50 D and corneal astigmatism of 0.50 D or less, 0.51 to 0.75 D, 0.76 to 1.00 D, and more than 1.00 D were categorized.
Results: The study comprised 117 patients (234 eyes). There was a significant difference in UDVA (P = .003), refractive sphere (P = .001), and defocus equivalent (P ≤ .001) between the residual refractive astigmatism groups; however, there was no difference in quality of vision (P = .28). The same was found for corneal astigmatism with UDVA (P ≤ .001) and quality of vision (P = .16). The angle of corneal astigmatism in relation to IOL placement did not statistically affect postoperative outcomes.
Conclusions: The IOL appeared to subjectively tolerate residual astigmatism well despite a statistically significant difference in UDVA with higher magnitudes of residual astigmatism. The angle of residual corneal astigmatism in relation to IOL placement did not have a significant effect on postoperative outcomes.

Keratoconus is a condition that causes progressive thinning and anterior protrusion of the cornea. Because of its irregular astigmatism, mild to moderate keratoconus is corrected with hard contact lenses (HCLs), but blepharoptosis due to the long-term wearing of HCLs is often a problem. In this study, we investigated blepharoptosis in HCL wearers with keratoconus.

Scleral-fixated intraocular lens (SFIOL) is a widely used technique for IOL implantation in patients where capsular support is insufficient. Most surgeons have shifted away from sutured to sutureless SFIOL techniques where haptics of a multifocal IOL are inserted in scleral tunnels/flaps. Large-scale publications have shown wide variation in the refractive status of eyes post-SFIOL even in the best of the hands.

Background: Refractive target of low simple myopic astigmatism allows increased depth-of-focus and near visual performance in monofocal intraocular lens (IOL) implants. This study investigated the effect of astigmatism and its axis on distance and near visual acuity (VA), and near visual performance for the Thai alphabet using the Thai MNREAD chart.
Design: Investigational simulation.

Purpose: To compare the clinical outcomes of Xen 45 gel stent implantation surgery (Ab externo, open conjunctiva) with those of trabeculectomy.
Method: We retrospectively reviewed electronic medical record of 57patients (62eyes) treated with Xen implantation surgery (ab externo, open conjunctiva approach) between April 1st, 2021 and July 31st, 2023 by the same surgeon. Preoperative clinical data including intraocular pressure, the number of glaucoma medications, visual acuity were collected from 1 day to 12 months postoperatively.
Introduction: The aim of our study was to assess the outcome of Gore-Tex sutures in minimally invasive scleral fixation of subluxated posterior chamber intraocular lenses (PCIOLs) and to demonstrate a method for validating the lens position.
Methods: Retrospective study of patients who underwent lasso in-the-bag scleral fixation of a subluxated PCIOL using the snare technique with Gore-Tex suture from 2019 to 2021 in a single tertiary medical center. Functional outcome was analyzed by clinical assessment, and anatomical outcome, by ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM).
