The alternating copolymerization of biorenewable limonene dioxide with carbon dioxide (CO2 ) catalyzed by a zinc β-diiminate complex is reported. The chemoselective reaction results in linear amorphous polycarbonates that carry pendent methyloxiranes and exhibit glass transition temperatures (Tg ) up to 135 °C. These polycarbonates can be efficiently modified by thiols or carboxylic acids in combination with lithium hydroxide or tetrabutylphosphonium bromide as catalysts, respectively, without destruction of the main chain. Moreover, polycarbonates bearing pendent cyclic carbonates can be quantitatively prepared by CO2 insertion catalyzed by lithium bromide.

Efficient synthesis of cyclic polymers remains a frontier challenge. We report here that macromolecular transesterification during a pseudoblock copolymerization process can be utilized for such a purpose. Organobase-catalyzed ring-opening alternating copolymerization of 3,4-dihydrocoumarin and epoxide is conducted with four-armed poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) as a macroinitiator.

Poly(styrene--maleic anhydride) (SMAnh) is a petroleum-based copolymer with desirable properties that afford utility in both industrial and academic fields. The reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT)-mediated polymerization of the bioderived comonomers, indene and itaconic anhydride, was explored using three chain transfer agents with varying activity, and generally well-controlled ( < 1.40) polymerizations were observed.

Single and dual-drug delivery systems (DDSs) based on linear choline polymers were designed through the controlled polymerization of a pharmaceutically functionalized monomer, i.e., [2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl]trimethylammonium, with counterions of cloxacillin (TMAMA/CLX), or its copolymerization with [2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl]trimethylammonium with ampicillin (TMAMA/AMP), providing antibiotic properties.

Direct incorporation of malonate units into polymer backbones is a synthetic challenge. Herein, we report the alternating and controlled anionic copolymerization of epoxides and Meldrum's acid (MA) derivatives to access poly(alkyl malonates) using (-bis(salicylidene)phenylenediamine)AlCl and a tris(dialkylamino)cyclopropenium chloride cocatalyst. This unique copolymerization yields a malonate-containing repeat unit while releasing a small molecule upon MA-derivative ring-opening.

Natural lignocellulose-based materials have numerous strengths such as abundance, cheap price and biodegradability, which indicates a brilliant prospect for environmental protection. This work aimed to design an efficient sorbent (NaSS-PSD) by pine sawdust (PSD) for the surveillance and management of enrofloxacin (ENR). In the study, sodium styrenesulfonate (NaSS) was chosen as an effective monomer to ameliorate the performance of PSD by graft copolymerization.
