Background: Absence of the long head of the biceps brachii (LHB) tendon is rare with an unknown incidence. It can occur bilaterally in patients with or without associated congenital anomalies. Diagnostic difficulty exists with both magnetic resonance imaging and physical examination.
Methods/results: We present the case of a 24-year-old female with a three year history of progressive right shoulder pain and instability with negative magnetic resonance arthrogram who was subsequently found to have absence of the LHB tendon.
Conclusions: There may be a potential relationship between absence of the LHB tendon and an increased risk of acquired shoulder pain and instability. However, the relationship between the absence of the LHB and subsequent pain and function remains unclear.

Introduction: Diabetes is a metabolic disorder of glucose homeostasis that is a significant risk factor for neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease, as well as mood disorders, which often precede neurodegenerative conditions. We examined the medial habenulainterpeduncular nucleus (MHb-IPN), as this circuit plays crucial roles in mood regulation, has been linked to the development of diabetes after smoking, and is rich in cholinergic neurons, which are affected in other brain areas in Alzheimer's disease.
Methods: This study aimed to investigate the impact of streptozotocin (STZ)-induced hyperglycemia, a type 1 diabetes model, on mitochondrial and lipid homeostasis in 4% paraformaldehyde-fixed sections from the MHb and IPN of C57BL/6 J male mice, using a recently developed automated pipeline for mitochondrial analysis in confocal images.

Background & Aims: Unhealthy lifestyles, such as chronic consumption of a Western Diet (WD), have been associated with increased systemic inflammation and oxidative stress (OS), a condition that may favour cognitive dysfunctions during aging. Polyphenols, such as rosmarinic acid (RA) may buffer low-grade inflammation and OS, characterizing the aging brain that is sustained by WD, promoting healthspan. The aim of this study was to evaluate the ability of RA to prevent cognitive decline in a mouse model of WD-driven unhealthy aging and to gain knowledge on the specific molecular pathways modulated within the brain.
